So if i understand this offer, basically you trade in PS3 to MS for 100 dollar store credit and then have to buy the Xbox One? So basically they are buying all PS3s for 100 dollar that you can spend only on MS software? now, i knew PS3 got cheap but not that cheap, you can probably get the same 100 dollars and more on Ebay and spend it on MS store, or anywhere else you want. this sounds like a robbery.

Microsoft... guys....
You're not doing poorly enough to be this desperate.
Looking this desperate just makes it look like you're doing poorly.
i disagree. microsoft is loosing on all fronts, even US where MS always outsold competitors are loosing this time. they are deperate. They also have inferior hardware and dont seem to be having any significant exclusives. in the long run stronger hardware, higher market penetration and possibility to first party exclusives on the level of The Last of Us is very dooming.

Microsoft could just remove Kinect from Xbone and it could drop in $100.
Excuse my ignorance but do we have a confirmation that Xbox can play games on same level with Kinect actually being disconnected/unplugged? there is a theory floating around that the "extra processing" in kinect is actually also doing some of the work for the main OS handling as well to artificially boost performance. only a theory thought and likely wrong.

If I wasn't so used to my windows PC and had so many games on it that require windows to play, I would now seriously consider installing Linux.
heres hoping SteamOS will develop good OpenGL, ect support. And maybe AMD Mantle will use it even. then again Mantle is good on paper, in practice its only catching up on the Intel/Nvidia domination in terms of power, albeit using a different method. Now if we could get Mantle layer to work with Nvidia features, that would be... but im rambling now...

I'm typing this post on my Linux laptop because I accidentally wiped the hard drive a while ago. I got my free Windows CD about week ago but for some reason I don't feel like installing it. I'd rather figure out how to run my games through Wine instead and enjoy the better performance
sorry to dissapoint you, but you wont. Unless you plan on playing old/retro games. New games are almost universaly directx 11/10 (thats why XP is no longer an option for a gamer). Wine cannot run these at all/efficiently and you wont be able to do any significant gaming on it with very few exceptions.
Rather, we should ask game developers to use OpenGL and OpenGL developers (well its open so i guess anyone with programming skill in this matter) to make openGL less convoluted since its kinda a mess now i heard.

Further proof that Microsoft just doesn't "get it" when it comes to backwards compatibility; they're now so opposed to the idea that they want to stop you playing old games for another system as well as their own. This is just pathetic.
havent you heard If youre bacwards compatible youre really just backwards [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/124268-Microsoft-Exec-If-Youre-Backwards-Compatible-Youre-Really-Backwards]

I suppose it's an all right deal, if you own a broken PS3 but damn... low blow.
the article says they wont accept a broken one so thats out of the window.

Because perhaps MAYBE it's more than just about what is cheaper? Either way, if you're really ready to lay down $400 for just a console, I don't think $100 more is really going to break your bank. And again, some people don't want a PS4 anyway. They want an XOne.
BTW, Xboner? Super original, brah. An incredibly sporting joke of the Jurassic era.
even if you dont want your PS3 and want an Xbox One you can get more than 100 dollars by just selling your PS3. Why must one use the lowest common denominator that is gamestop and think that this is how much your going to sell it for everywhere?
Xbone was the very first name that was named on Escapist when Xbox One was revealed. it combined the two words into XbOne. Now if you want a joke of truly jurrasic era, go for EggsBox $3.60.

If Microsoft really wanted to do this, why not encourage people to upgrade from a WiiU to the Xbox One? It'd go over a lot better among the people they are trying to attract.
probably has something to do that there are somewhat close to 15 times more PS3s out there than WiiUs.

@all who say that the PS3 is worth more than 100 dollars:
You know what? You're right. It is worth more than a 100 dollars. But that DOESN'T mean that local stores will give you any better of a deal if you bring it in to sell to them. And OF COURSE you'd get a better deal online. You'll always get a better deal if you sell something online rather than locally, discounting the shipping which can cost a lot sometimes. The fact of the matter is, Microsoft is giving the most amount of money if you trade it to them locally than if you traded it in at most any other local store.
because the only two options are local
rip-off trade-in stores or international shipping?

The old games were better than the new games. We know that as fact.
ill stop you right there until you show me how this became a fact now and not just an opinion.
