I'm so amazed all you guys are biased by two little games -.-' I mean, you guys didn't see it in action. The Wii has its gems too. DO you really think Microsoft is giving a press conference of 2 hours for natal because of 2 little games? Every platform has its shovelware, and even PS Move will have shitty and crappy games, in fact, Move is just a Wii with High-Def graphics and a glowing ball, Wow! Innovation! /sarcasm. Sony proved once again that the only thing they can do is steal. I'm maybe acting like a total fanboy, but judging Natal because of 2 mini-games? That's like judging the Wii on Wii Play -.-' even though you know there are pretty damn good games for the Wii. Also, not every game need guns to be good.
Nah, the point I was making is that NATAL's going to require in-house support to get it going. In my opinion, those two games represent wasted time, that those developers could've been concentrating on something more interesting for the launch of this device. For me, it would seem more appropriate to 'leak' a game that's actually going to get people interested _before_ the E3 spectacle. Word of mouth, right now, is key given both NATAL and Move awareness amongst consumers is rather fragile at the moment.

I think both peripherals have GREAT potential, but it's going to be up to their in-house devs to show this potential. The Wii and Nintendo have shown us that while they _can_ make some games for their device, they're mainly geared towards younger audiences, and Nintendo has openly admitted their devs don't like making adult games. The problem is, PS3/360 owners are largely young adults, and adults. I want to see a Self-Defense game for NATAL, that has Kata's, Forms and Styles of as many martial arts forms as they could find and program into it. I'd buy NATAL just for that. But, I think they started the word of mouth advertising pretty poorly.

That's just me though.
I keep reading about how people want things like that. The thing is I can just imagine someone falling and breaking something or kicking their nice HD tv's. I dunno, might be funny to read for a while though. Remember the whole flying Wiimote thing? hehe

You know I really do like the idea of Natal but with each and every game that I hear about makes me wonder if it's at all worth it. Especially if the rumours are true and it's more like £150 rather than £50.
If I remember right, it was $150 not £150.
Yes you are correct, but I personally can't help but think they will keep it the same price over here. I might be wrong, but I wouldn't put it past them.
I dont think it'll be that much, but it won't be done to the exchange rate.
Still, with the way Natal is looking right now I doubt i'd buy it. I'm going to say that once I see about 4-5 games I want for it (pre release) i'll really consider buying it. Otherwise fuck it, waste of money for what little enjoyment i'd get from it.
Amen.
I'll probably wait half a year, wait to see if any decent 'hardcore' games are released. Still seems like Microsoft's anwser to the Wii though.
Also we should be saying Kinect now. I didn't think it could get any worse.

Nice to know others don't like that name, Natal just sounded good.

I wonder if they even ask the hardcore gaming market about their decisions like this.

Nice to know others don't like that name, Natal just sounded good.

Haha, I think you might have put your response into the quote :p In any case, i'm betting they didn't really care, to them it's a different market.

Woops, seems i did. I'm just hoping it's a side project and they don't take attention away from the 360. But seriously casual market is not what Xbox is for. They should just leave it to Nintendo. But I guess no-one can judge until it's at least been out a while.
Boy this quote is getting long.

Good point - if an FPS kill caused the real user to die, I imagine that game would be outlawed.

That said, the Matrix's 'if you die in the Matrix you die in RL' thing was frankly dumb - though most of the 'science' of that movie didn't make sense if you stopped to think about it for more than 10 seconds.
True.

But I was more talking about how 'real' an FPS would seem using a Matrix-like system. The player no longer has that serparation from reality or the game world via a controller and a screen. You move your Avatar's limbs as if they were your own, the screen are your eyeballs, a weapon feels heavy in your hands, you feel recoil when you fire it, you feel/hear the whip/crack when enemy fire passes over your head, you claw at the earth when artillery and rocket fire starts to land around you.

That sort of thing.
Ahh, I see what you mean now.

I think, realistically, that games with that level of 'reality' would be very unpopular. Why? Well, because FPS multiplayer isn't about being a 'bad ass killer' to even the crazist of FPSers, its about being a 'bad ass fragger' - hell, who'd want to play a game where they could be slowly and painfully stabbed to death like that, feeling it. Even if they disabled pain, only really deranged folk would actually want to stab someone realistically and with all the gory details, like how to the drag of human flesh against the knife's force.

Its part of the reason, I think, that Manhunt 1 and 2 were not very popular games in terms of sales, even taking into account the bans and high ratings they got.

Because really, real life combat isn't fun, and its pyschologically scaring. Pretend, abstracted combat, however, is fun. Even if its trying to seem more realistic.

I think you're confusing innovation with fun. I'm not saying anyone should judge natal by the few games that have been announced but i just can't imagine flailing my arms around infront of a tv being fun in any situation.
Maybe MS will suprise us, but judging from what i heard about their E3 conference they're more interested in making shiny adverts than genuinely good games.
