Let me get this straight, going to Facebook Memorial pages to talk shit about the deceased to the grieving family is perfectly alright and within freedom of speech, but apparently talking trash in an online match is grounds for getting your ass kicked?

...Stay classy Escapist.

No it doesn't seem it is alright or protected speech, at least in the UK, trolling is illegal.

Also yes, yes it is grounds for him getting his ass kicked. He wouldn't go up to someone in the street and shout rubbish at them, so why shouldn't his internet nards get him in trouble?
I meant by the Escapist community. Where several of the responses to that news was to say the parents either "needed thicker skin," or "deserved it for having Facebook. (not jokingly before you ask)" Where people tell you to ignore trolls but will cheer when a boy gets his fingers broken over a DotA game.

That is why I said "Stay classy, Escapist" rather than calling out the people involved.

Middle-aged man tries to kill obnoxious teenager that enjoys acting tough as long as he thinks there's no consequences.

In other words: CALL OF DUTY!

I wish more people would follow the brilliant example set by this splendid individual. A true hero!

Imprison the mother. The boy was 13, black ops is no game for a kid
It's not illegal for kids to play mature rated games.
In the UK, yes it is. It's an 18. Not optional in the UK, if you go look at the UK box it has a big red circle with a white 18 in it, those are legally enforceable. Large fine for store and adult purchasing if caught.

Going to jail for talking shit (eventhough it was in poor taste) isn't cool, choking out a snotnosed punk (eventhough he had it coming) is warranted for you're ass to put in jail.

This is interesting because I used to have a game rage problem (I like to say used, because its only been a few months since my last meltdown but I've been trying to play multiplayer without them now) and one of the things I would do was daydream about tracking down my nemesis and killing them usually after I cooled off I stopped thinking about it, funny how someone actually did it or tried to at least.

EDIT: Inb4 someone quotes me thinking I didn't read the whole article I did, I know the kid didn't die.

Voids the entire thing, Daily mail.

On a note with the story, don't say over the internet what you wouldn't say in real life.

Bratty kids deserve a kicking just as bratty 20 year olds do.

Daily mail is a whole load better than the sun, mirror, star... It's atleast in the middle ground of the UK tabloids, which yeah isn't that great but by no means is the worst.

I'd wager it equally pathetic for a 13 year old to throw insults at a grown man through a videogame.
Eh... No. 13-year-olds are allowed to be stupid (which is good, because they generally are). Assaulting a 13-year-old, on the other hand, when you are old enough to know better and should be aware of how bratty 13-year-olds are is just sad.

Plus, assault is always worse than trash talking.
Doesn't change the fact that the brat deserved it.

I'm sorry, but the kid should have shut his motherfucking mouth.

Not that I agree with what this fellow did, not at all. But I hold no sympathy at all for the little shit that got throttled, and his mother should have been paying attention to what he was saying anyway.
Couldn't agree more. Maybe next time he'll think twice before acting like a little jerk.

Massive overreaction but has anyone pointed out to the mother that her kid should not be playing what is an 18 rated game?

I'm surprised how many people are actually supporting this guy throttling the kid. If you're walking in a park and a kid laughs at you and calls you names do you run after him and beat him up? At least with the kid in the game you can mute them.

Clearly Bradford needs some mental help, annnd to stay away from games for a little while.

Not to say that kids like that aren't annoying. My younger brother has been playing Call of Duty since he was 9, I don't support it at all, even though 17 is a little old to expect people to wait before playing those games, there is a definite line of how early you should be exposed to them.
I think it's less people supporting the man, and more supporting that the kid got a lesson in manners.
It's a growing problem that kids are getting more, and more rude because more people complain when a kid gets hit.
Yes hitting a child is never a good thing. (I was beaten myself as a kid)
However, you should know when to stop trash talking someone before things turn ugly like they did.

Bradford himself stated he was in the wrong here, and I respect that, but don't condone the action in which he took to teach the kid that lesson. Really, he should have shown up to the house and talked to the kids mother about it right there. If anything that would have gotten the parent to do something about it in a much better way.
