The certificate is a guideline for retail and parents, it is not illegal for anyone under the age of 18 to play with parental consent, they simply cannot purchase it.jackanderson said:Plus; why is the kid playing the game in the first place? 18 certificate for a reason! /hypocrisy.
Just wondering, where is it you are from? Don't know if you are from the UK or not or are familiar with how the games are rated here. While some games use the "guidelines" ratings system, games like Call of Duty are slapped with BBFC ratings. Sadly, they're not guidelines.folieadeux said:The certificate is a guideline for retail and parents, it is not illegal for anyone under the age of 18 to play with parental consent, they simply cannot purchase it.jackanderson said:Plus; why is the kid playing the game in the first place? 18 certificate for a reason! /hypocrisy.
first i'm not going to support this man in assaulting a moron (ok maybe a little the kid did deserve a good dose of reality but attacking the kid was wrong yelling and swearing at him in person would of scared the shit out of him though) but the it's just a game thing is what bugs me how is insulting a person through a game any different from bullying someone in real life that is what threw him off the deep end not the game but the asshole he was playing with.Jakub324 said:Does he know there's a mute function? ...Stay classy Escapist.
Best comment in this thread. Parents shouldn't buy a game for their 13 year old when it clearly says "18" on the box. I guess the parents bought the kid a copy of "A Serbian Film" while they are at it.krychek57 said:Wait, what happened to game ratings and good parenting?
Fair enough. My first M rated game was when I was around 13. Die Hard Trilogy 2 on the Playstation.believer258 said:My first M rated game was Halo 1, which I got when in the Christmas of 2007. When I was 16. And that took a few huge arm-twists and about a year of convincing my parents that I was old enough to play an M-rated game. From then until I got a job the following year, and some time after, they paid a lot of attention to what I played and knew the games that I owned.thebobmaster said:First off, to all the people who are saying that 13 year olds shouldn't play M rated games...how old were you when you started playing M rated games? If you were under 17, aren't you being a bit of a hypocrite?
Secondly, how the hell can you justify a man breaking into a kid's home and strangling him over trash talking on a game? You're probably the same people who think it's all right for gang members to bash someone for insulting their girlfriends or whatever.
I'm not saying that the kid didn't deserve a good slap upside the head. That would have been awesome. Or just letting the kid know "I found you. Others can too. Watch what you say." But strangling him? Reminds me of the news story of the guy in Canada who shot a driver with a crossbow he had in the trunk because the victim cut him off in traffic. Bet you guys think that was funny too. After all, if he didn't want to get shot with a crossbow, he should have driven more respectfully.
Yes, I have room to ***** about thirteen year olds playing a game they just plain shouldn't be.
And I've never been one to give trash talk. Even as an adolescent. If I'm going to badmouth someone, it's going to be someone that deserves it and they'll be physically there.
