Well I think most of us could agree that both the boy and the man where both acting like twats that day.
You summed this story up quite brilliantly. Now I'm taken with the notion of National Twat Day.

On the one hand its sad that a grown man snapped like that. Granted he took responsibility.

On the other hand I always enjoy reading about jerkwad trash talkers getting their asses kicked.

Eh, you credited what I said to Geralt and vice-versa. Not in the mood to fix it though. :p

Still, there is no reason someone's pathetic revenge fantasies should get in the way of reason when it comes to this subject.

THE MAN ASSAULTED A CHILD, AND DESERVES TO GO TO JAIL AS WELL AS BE FORCED INTO ANGER MANAGEMENT. If anyone disagrees with that, they can fuck themselves with a rusty metal pole for all I care.
Whoops! Fix'd it there.

And yeah, he needs anger management and a bit of jail time, no arguing there. I guess it would've been easier to sympathize with him if he did something classier, like...

Thomiroth, I hope you can find out your poo-mouthed foe, so that you can dole out this awesome brand of justice.

No, you guys need to understand, you do this trash talking and trolling in real life, this is what happens, people abuse the fact that they can't be reached over the internet, and they do what ever they want to get their jollys.

I say good job, and we need to show this to everyone so that people will think twice before talking trash, because that internet tough guy just may be able to get you, and if you wouldn't tempt fate in real life, why should you on the internet?
Basically this.

Rotten spoiled brats on the internet who think that just because no one is in room at the time, means there are no consequences.

I think choking was going a bit too far, but I would have had no problem with him terrorizing the kid for weeks, and otherwise ruining his life.

If you can't handle losing, [del]to a child[/del] then you shouldn't be playing games.
I'll talk trash over a video game as much as the next gamer. Come to my house over it and I'll fucking end you.

When I get trash-talked, I usually reply: Whatever, I'm gonna have sex with my girlfriend :D

But this seems to be an interesting option.... ;p

Let me get this straight, going to Facebook Memorial pages to talk shit about the deceased to the grieving family is perfectly alright and within freedom of speech, but apparently talking trash in an online match is grounds for getting your ass kicked?

...Stay classy Escapist.
The issue you are referring to was different. There the debate was whether or not the person in question should go to jail for it, which they shouldn't have because it was indeed within freedom of speech. However, that's not the same as saying it's "perfectly alright". I would say both circumstances are grounds for getting the shit kicked out of you.

Adults often forget what childhood and adolescence were like after a while, but I for one see the evidence around me almost every day that when some cocky 13 year old is trying to talk shit like he's some kind of big shot, the best way to get him to shut the fuck up is if someone (preferably someone older) serves them a good hard beat-down. Harsh it may sound, but it works every time.

And yet none of the police officers or the courts questioned why the 13 year old little shit was playing an 18 rated game?
It happens so often you don't notice it unless you're thinking about it or when someone points it out to you? (Like you did for me just now...)

It's not illegal for kids to play mature rated games.
Doesn't matter if it's illegal. He shouldn't be on the fucking game. Period.
lol k bro

I played M rated games when I was under 17 and I wouldn't be surprised if you did too.

Punk kid had it coming. But if the man cannot handle trash-talk from people with no social skills, he shouldn't go online.

Don't care who was more in the wrong, just find it funny someone made good on those threats to track an online opponent down.

I mean, how many times have you seen that threat? "I'm going to hunt you down and beat the shit out of you." Of course, it's so easy to dismiss as a throw-away lie to intimidate people.

Yes, I found the fact it occurred absurdly amusing. No, I don't care about the arguments for who deserved what they got.

Look, nobody is in the right here, but honestly it's better the kid learned the value of being courteous to EVERYBODY this early. It sucks that a grown man could not hold his own hand from an act of violence, but if this had been the streets--or a British football match--the kid would be dead. Now he knows better. Everyone sucks, but at least now he knows better.

Seriously, if you're over 30, just mute everybody. Older gamers are just not wired for the kind of trash talk you get in FPSs.

"It's pathetic that a grown man would attack a defenseless child like this," his mother added. "If you can't handle losing to a child then you shouldn't be playing games."

Or perhaps... Your defenseless child shouldn't be playing a game that is rated 18?

It's reasonably well known that the main demographic of that game is kids like this, and said kids generally act pretty predictably. It doesn't make their behaviour any better, but if you can't handle insolent brats being insolent and bratty you might want to play something else. Or at least, know when to walk away.

Teen gamers portrayed as trashtalking punks once again.
Why do I even try and stick up for teens such as myself?
