I don't mind the transition to final since they've spent the last 2 weeks killing complex bugs.
And adding in a bunch of simple ones.
But then killing those too.

(They really NEEDED a time where they stopped adding more shinies and just fixed what they had. They need even more of it to be honest. If it took releasing the final version for them to do that, then fine.)

I'm pretty sure the Aether mod a suggestion for Minecraft, then later actually started by modders, then Notch said he was going to make a skyland, and then he made that...xPixelatedx said:

The game is not too different from what it was, it's just better. Also, if the "old 'mode'" you mention is Creative Mode without monsters, then you can play that way.Steve the Pocket said:

OT: I will laugh my ass off if Minecraft gets a 8/10. And then the internet will die from all the fanboy hate.
So now that Minecraft is done which one of the Escapist reviewers will actually review it. I mean at this point EVERYONE anywhere near games has bought the thing. ( its a third the price of a AAA title.) I think Susan would probably be best at reviewing it from a unbiased stance. Does anyone else have an opinion on this....?
So now everythings just going to be DLC. well that sucks now we'll actually have to start paying for updates (including possibly the dragon if it isnt available now [I havent kept up on my updates]). Well, guess 1.0 is the most recent my Minecraft game will be.

Minecraft is a polarizing game. Some people love the open world, do-what-you-feel-like, creativity. Other people decry it's lack of any real direction. It's a game you either love with all your heart or hate with all of your being, like Napoleon Dynamite. The reviews will reflect this, with some scores being 1/10 and others being 10/10. The fanboys will hoist the 10/10 as proof of it being the greatest game ever, while decrying the 1/10 as people who just didn't "get" it. And the world will keep spinning. Although it will be interesting to see if Notch refers to it "being done" as in he'll release it to the full public or its "done" as in they won't pay attention to it anymore.
He's not releasing early nor late. Development of Minecraft is supposed to to continue working the same way. He just picked a semi-arbitrary date to change it into a final version. I think it's better this way, otherwise we'd start thinking the game got stuck into eternal-beta limbo. Aside from the price change and (hopefully) a lot more emphasis on bug-fixes, I expect it to keep evolving at the pace it did so far.sethisjimmy said:

Anyways, the end is not the end of the game, it simply marks the launch of the game, and a modder can get a lot more done when they only have to focus on a mod, whereas Notch & Co have to worry about bug fixes and adding/improving things to the entire game, also, its easy to point out cool mods and say why didn't they do that, it's probably because they didn't think of it

I think it would be awesome if they all put in their two bits, sharing their favorite parts of the game. One can review Creative mode, another Survival, another the Multiplayer, and the fourth anything left over plus a top ten of Escapist's favorite mods for Minecraft.MorganL4 said:

Notch never seemed happy with how the Skyland he was working on was coming out. Making it into the End seemed like a fair change of plan. He never said he was going to completely nix giving us a skyland. It just will happen in an after release update. In the meantime those who really want their skyland can enjoy the Aether mod, which some people seem to forget is actually possible because Notch supports mods of Minecraft. That is not what it says. Anybody who hasn't bought the game yet still has to the 18th to pay the Beta price, otherwise they have to pay full price after Release. Anyone who has bought it before the 18th merely has to wait for the update to be released. No contracts, no blood oaths, no extra charges. If you bought it during Beta, you get the whole game for just $25. If you bought it sooner like during Alpha, you got it for less. There are no extra charges for when the game hits Release.
