Well to be honest the has really been more or less finished for a good while it is only just official now that is "finished" with a bit of a price hike.

It saddens me that not enough people are UPSET by this being the "official" release of the game. It further proved, yet again, that Notch has no clue what a development cycle is, as the game never left Alpha, and still hasn't.
He "released" the game without the promised mod support, without optimizing the game AT ALL, or fixing most of the major bugs that have persisted for over a year. Yes, that lovely memory leak due to not having any line of sight rendering is still around. If you're on a 32bit system, enjoy your frequent crashes.

Frankly I'm disappointed. When I first discovered minecraft my mind buzzed with things that if added or tweaked could make this game amazing. But almost every update was an over-hyped let-down. Don't get me wrong I loved this game at one time and I still enjoy it from time to time but for a game that had so much potential to end like THIS. A half-assed boss fight and some crop-trampling villagers is just sad. Luckily the mod community will continue to add amazing things to keep me entertained. (oh about that mod-support, Notch...)
