I didn't say cloning a genre; I said cloning a core concept - i.e., a pivotal gameplay mechanic. Like portals, or detective vision, or nanosuits. Or more specifically, the features that each gameplay mechanic provides, not the mere presence of said items.
So warping between two placed portals, toggleable x-ray-like "detective" vision, or strength/speed/stealth/defense modes...
For each respective gameplay mechanic.
Genres are created by an abundance of similarly themed products. All that's happening here is the birth of the open-world building simulator.

You're right. Don't mind me, I just enjoy waffling to pass the time. And I don't mind conceding to an *actually logical* disputation.
But when (yes, when) this "open-world building simulator" genre becomes widely accepted as a legitimate genre (or at least a sub-genre below adventure or simulation) I only hope that people remember how the genre came about.
There may well have been other games similar to Minecraft that came before it, but it was certainly Minecraft that popularised the concept.

And I don't have anything inherently against this new "Minecraft-like" 2D game; I take back my earlier statement about...

Still, it would definitely speed the inevitable birth of this new genre if every news article stopped calling such games "Minecraft-like" or "Minecraft clones". Or is that bordering too much on self-contradiction?

Oh, most definitely. I doubt anybody is going to forget about Minecraft for a long time. A game exploding in popularity in such a way barely ever happens.

I agree. I think even FortressCraft (which is really similar to Minecraft at the moment) has it's place, as long as it actually implements the features that separated it from Minecraft (minions etc).

More enemies, better combat, npcs, and more... maybe you should watch the vid before you start blindly hating hit.
I have watched the video. I can confirm it looks, and this is the technical term, "fucking pointless". Especially when you can run Minecraft using some pubic hair, a rock, and a hamster running in a wheel.

Why is everybody gay for Minecraft? not saying it offencively, but I just can't get into it...

The game looks great, might even be better then minecraft for those of us that like combat more. It also looks like you might level up and/or gain more max stars along the way.

Tons of questions about it though and I don't see anything but the one trailer video on the website.

Can you enjoy the game solo? Those bosses look like they were made to fight with multiple characters for instance.

Is there a leveling system? Different weapons etc to fight with?

How does crafting work etc.

Tons of stuff that would need to be answered. A demo of the game would also be very useful although the trailer does make it look worth playing. Still really need to have more information.

did you see the boss battles in the end? this looks like it could be a great game.
The 3 people with low post counts and no avatar (and not including the OP) all love it.

Veeeeeery interesting.

*suspicious eyes*
So then whats my computers excuse for not being able to run it?
Have you actually tried it on minimum and reduced the draw distance?
Well no but i think even if i did my computer couldnt run it, its got a real issue with any game that above the level of a flash game
OK, well Minecraft generates maps 8x the size of Earth, so if you've got draw distance on maximum its going to look a long old way.

The game looks like it needs alot of work.

I have a STRONG feeling that you made or contributed to the creation of this game - and thats ok. Its fine to tout your own work to people especially when you put blood, sweat and hours into this game. The part where I take issue is when you A: connect the game to minecraft in your title then get upset when people make that connection in their stated opinion and B: you take every opinion , which you asked for in the first place, that is converse to your way of thinking as a personal attack on you. It isnt. To see that you are so up in arms to defend this game leads me to believe that you are invested in this game - which is good! you should be invested in your work, but if you expect it to flourish and grow, you must take off the dirty diaper, put on your big-boy pants and accept that people have opinions.

Fighting an idea is fine - it is the key to victory in any debate...But you are not fighting an idea with these statments:

"I like you because you focus on a crappy version of minecraft classic with a $3 price tag."

"Your an idiot."
You are fighting a person.

As a developer, this will sink you because you are biting people for commenting on it. Just be happy that people are looking at you. You are in essence punishing people for interacting with you.

IF you are the creator of this game, you will only succeed if you stop attacking people, stop thinking that your game is gods gift to the world - look at what is wrong with the
game (and dont get this wrong - someone not liking your game because its not their type and not liking it because you failed to communicate an experience to them are two completely different things. the trick is knowing which on is which and moving on) and progress from there.

FINAL POINT: ( this one is giving you the benefit of the doubt) if you are NOT INFACT SOMEONE WHO MADE THIS GAME,
you are not the person the game creators need to back them up. You are driving people away from an experience just because they arent getting out of it the same thing that you are. people have different experiences. What is happening right now is people are looking at these posts, and thinking to themselves "If this guy is anything like the people who
play this game, I dont want to be a part of that".

Either way, reconsider your attitude or the arguing will continue.

Dude, i'm proud of myself if i can get the "Hello World" program to work. (press button and text appears) theres no way i could make this.

also, its just a blatant rip-off really, and im inclined to hate it from day one.
To be fair, Minecraft is a rip off of an earlier game as <url=http://www.minecraftwiki.net/wiki/Infiniminer>well.
I still enjoy Minecraft, and I don't mind the rip off-ness. Minecraft is much better than Infiniminer as well. I just don't like it when people scream "INNOVATION!" when its not really at all =|
no game is really, but my point was, this game is trying to ride on minecraft's coat tails, and without even try to sugar coat it, all they have done is made combat a little more frequent, and made the game a whole lot more casual and (im assuming) accessible.
Yeah thats fair. This game reeks of D-riding.

I like this game. Alot. I still love Minecraft, as it has a certain charm to it....but Terraria has much more things to do, better NPCs, Enemies, etc.

I can't believe people are saying this is trying to rip off Minecraft. The point of this game is basically to level your character through equipment, building is not the big point (but building in this at least has a point, used as housing for npcs such as shop keepers and healers)

There are much more enemies then in Minecraft, loads more equipment, built specifically for multiplayer, and much more. Come on people this is not a Minecraft rip off. I loved Minecraft but I must say this game is looking much better, at least to a more action(and/or)rpg oriented gamer.
