The game looks like it needs alot of work.

I have a STRONG feeling that you made or contributed to the creation of this game - and thats ok. Its fine to tout your own work to people especially when you put blood, sweat and hours into this game. The part where I take issue is when you A: connect the game to minecraft in your title then get upset when people make that connection in their stated opinion and B: you take every opinion , which you asked for in the first place, that is converse to your way of thinking as a personal attack on you. It isnt. To see that you are so up in arms to defend this game leads me to believe that you are invested in this game - which is good! you should be invested in your work, but if you expect it to flourish and grow, you must take off the dirty diaper, put on your big-boy pants and accept that people have opinions.

Fighting an idea is fine - it is the key to victory in any debate...But you are not fighting an idea with these statments:

"I like you because you focus on a crappy version of minecraft classic with a $3 price tag."

"Your an idiot."

You are fighting a person.

As a developer, this will sink you because you are biting people for commenting on it. Just be happy that people are looking at you. You are in essence punishing people for interacting with you.

IF you are the creator of this game, you will only succeed if you stop attacking people, stop thinking that your game is gods gift to the world - look at what is wrong with the
game (and dont get this wrong - someone not liking your game because its not their type and not liking it because you failed to communicate an experience to them are two completely different things. the trick is knowing which on is which and moving on) and progress from there.

FINAL POINT: ( this one is giving you the benefit of the doubt) if you are NOT INFACT SOMEONE WHO MADE THIS GAME,
you are not the person the game creators need to back them up. You are driving people away from an experience just because they arent getting out of it the same thing that you are. people have different experiences. What is happening right now is people are looking at these posts, and thinking to themselves "If this guy is anything like the people who
play this game, I dont want to be a part of that".

Either way, reconsider your attitude or the arguing will continue.

Oh wow, it's like Minecraft in 2d!
Why not just play Minecraft?
There are many reasons that a 2D Minecraft might be preferable to a 3D one, and vice versa. Personally I'd love a 2D Minecraft.

Edit: Just watched the video and it looks nothing like Minecraft :/ Why people are calling this a rip-off is beyond me. It does take a few mechanics from Minecraft but atleast it innovates upon them rather than just being a carbon copy like the 10+ other Minecraft rip-offs.
3D>2D

Can't argue with math..
actually it demends on the mechanics/variables take for example the sonic francise the 2d stable is filled with amazing games the children and adults have played for hours and with a couple exception the 3d games are all crap same with the castlevania series except without the exceptions or hell look at minecraft itself it uses crappy graphics and made a game so good that it outshines the building mechanics and the enjoyment involved of any other game with a similar mechanic (garry's mod, level editors ect) i've played 3d games that are essentialy 2d as they are linear and 2d games that have taken me to far away places i've never imagined but on the topic of 3d minecraft vs 2s minecraft 3d wins because it allows more detail in the buildings that are created. btw i'm also giving you a #1 fan award for defending minecraft like 6 times
Dude, if we say D=1

then 3D>2D, pure math.
dude i was referring to the game itself not the ds since a game cannot be measured by pure math is what i'm trying to get at

Well, it was also ment to be a joke, not to be taken literally..
Edit: Wa- Wait, By DS you mean dimensions raight?
first yes ds as in the plural for d second i'm suffering from insomnia right now so my sense of humor is kind of fucked up right now and i have had that argument stuck in my head for about a week now so you're joke was just the activation button
Argument of wether 3D>2D when D=1 or greater. Or the whole 3d gaming vs 2d gaming?

Isn't Minecraft technically a generational step ahead of this game? It looks like the game Minecraft evolved from, like Mario evolving from the first Mario game into his current 3D iteration.

That said, I don't see much point in playing it, as it seems kinda boring to me.
So super mario 64 is generationally ahead of new super mario bros.?
strictly speaking, no. You COMPLETELY overshot what I was trying to say. I never referenced New Super Mario Bros., I specifically said "The first Mario game".
New SMB has many features and details that make it an enhancement over it's predecessor. I can't speak for it directly, since I only played it for about 20 minutes, but I can imagine it has many features Super Mario 64 didn't have, and vice-versa.
Yes there are games that are on the same level, but you'd be kidding yourself if you said there wasn't a definitive scale of evolution.

Besides, what with the hostile feedback? You asked "what do you guys think?" and I replied with what I thought. Why did you instantly shoot me and my opinion down? I was just saying what I thought.
Terraria has many features that minecraft doesn't have, and vice-versa.
what features? This isn't a sarcastic question, since I don't know what extra features it has.

What turns me off immediately about this is the the character sprites look like they were ripped from a Megaman game and changed a bit.
That turns you off?
That turns me on!
It gives me a massive nostalgia bo- i don't want to be on probation

also they are actually ripped from FF
I plenty like the style (and now that you mention it you're right) but the reason it's a 'turn off' is because it seems half-assed. I know gameplay first and foremost blah blah, but I'd rather have seen them make an effort and make their own sprites and make it their own. I'm just nitpicking really, but it makes me think of sprite comics too much.

Don't get me wrong, game looks fun and I might even pick it up depending on the price.

I have no idea why people say this looks like Minecraft... It's gameplay looks completely different to me. While the larger focus of Minecraft (if there really is one) is building and exploration, Terraria seems to focus more on combat. Granted, there are some similarities, but I don't think comparing it, or claiming it is a 2d version of Minecraft is really fair.

Edit: Should note that I am an avid Minecraft player, to hopefully quell the flames (if they start to burn).

That game actually looks pretty nifty...

...If I don't have to PAY for it, I'll check it out. But I've got enough games on my plate, this can wait.

Very cool looking, though I have minecraft so I can't see myself spending cash on another game that eats my time like that.

and yeah, it's LIKE minecraft, but minecraft is better. play it and see what you think of it. try to not spend hours building your house... or doing whatever!

You're.

OT: Looks pretty decent despite blatantly suckling the success overflow of Minecraft. Some unique ideas mixed with some culture cliche that's hit and miss. If it didn't try to sell itself a a Minecraft competitor, and was either free or very cheap, it would do much better. It seems especially suited to a handheld-device port. If I saw this in the AppStore / Cydia I'd probably get it.

It's not going to shift Minecraft anywhere though, it's creativity is too limited, and it's strengths seem to be in small party boss and dungeon raiding, which other games have been doing since time immemorial so has some very distinguished competition. It doesn't provide the complexity the attack score addicts (Disgaea) need or the character development the likes of WoW can provide.

what I'm curious about is whether or not the system will be as robust as minecraft. I mean, people can simulate a computer in minecraft, for crying out loud. Even my neighbor was able to built a cannon in minecraft. I so far don't see anything here in the physics engine that can do some insane stuff like that yet.

Of course, that might not be it's main appeal anyway. Personally, I think billing this as a minecraft but 2D is a mistake in the first place. That kind of marketing fails because it's basically saying, "our game IS a rip off of this other game, but in 2D!" (which in many ways, can be utterly meaningless)

I mean, we can all see there is other stuff going on, but also there are also ways it simply CANNOT compare to minecraft. So.. eh... we'll see.

Wow, that actually looks pretty cool.
Why can't anyone just play both?
I know I'll be trying this out, and I'll still be playing Minecraft as well...

why does everybody enjoy heterosexual relations with Minecraft? (there, better worded)

It looks pretty cool and I bet it eliminates at least some of the confusion that comes with huge caves, but I didn't see much building involved, and, well, that's ninety percent of the patented "Minecraft Experience"
Uh, Gay is homosexual, meaning you prefer the same gender.
Heterosexual is that you prefer the other gender, the most common.
I think you totally missed this guy's point u__u

OT: It looks boring. Then again, I thought minecraft was boring. (I'm not creative enough for it...)
