That made me want to play a Zelda game more than Portal or Minecraft...

Apples and oranges.
Or it is just a waste of time seeing that it has worse gameplay, no story, dire graphics etc.
It is also a joke seeing that Valve has one of the biggest modding communities out there for the source engine and Valve are great at supporting them so you really have no excuse to waste time on a portal mod for MC.

Different genre of games, it's like comparing tetris to chess. As for plotline, minecraft is a sandbox game, does The Sims have a plotline? No. You do not need one for a game to be good. Dire graphics... apparently you have NOT seen or heard of texture packs, more so, the 512x512 texture packs.

Source has been around for a long time and it's got a great modding community, minecraft modding is still in the bloom, not to mention, the creators of Minecraft are ALSO very supportive by providing the modding api free of charge. As I've said before, peas and loaves.

Yeah, portal is a different type of game because it is a game. How does MC benefit from having portals if it is not to attempt to recreate Portal (as all the videos show) like everything done in MC ?

MC is not really a game. There is no goal, no plot, etc. The Sims too has no plot and everyone knows the Sims is just a time sink. And the graphics are crap, even with the texture packs. Just compare it to Just Cause 2....which I bought for a lower price then MC.

Why MC modding has taken off is because the engine is so basic/barren. When modding the Source engine you do need to know something about programming. With MC you can teach yourself just be reading it as it is so basic. Also the devs will be happy to support as they like people doing their job for them. MC is almost turning out to be the 'wikipedia' of games.

Portals, useful for fast transport. There is a lot to benefit from by being able to go from point A to B instantly in Minecraft, you just have to think with portals.

Minecraft is a game as much as Simscity is a game or Pokemon. You get on Minecraft, make friends, gather resources and build whatever you want. Everyone's goal in Minecraft is different, yours may be to grief someone's fort while yahtzee's would be to make a giant d- out of gold blocks. Graphics-wise, its default texture pack is better than pokemon or any other "light" games. Comparing to a "heavy" game like Just Cause 2 is just unwise. It's like comparing xbox games to iphone games, both are equally awesome in their own unique ways.

Also, did you buy BFBC2 when it was $6? If not, compare THAT to Just Cause 2. Talk about a cheap deal.

When modding Minecraft, you need knowledge with JAVA, a programming language that's very applicable and one of the most widely used ones too. Basic/barren? Every engine is basic and barren, just so people can add on to it, if it was already jam packed with goodies, there wouldn't be a need to mod.

It is true that the devs are happy to support modders so please, remember your side of the argument, devs at Valve and pretty much any game (BETHESDA, I AM LOOKING AT YOU) supports modding of their games.

Wikipedia of Games Award goes to Fallout 3/NV/Oblivion... freaking Bethesda games aren't good without mods at all.
