The changes will only affect people that buy Minecraft after December 20, so if you've been meaning to buy the game, now's the time. These "future versions" will be bigger updates to the game and don't include patches, which will be still be free. Persson also announced that Minecraft gift codes will go live soon, so you can give your friends and family a gift that includes zombie pigs [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/104842-Zombie-Pigs-Trotting-Into-Minecraft]. Is there anything better?
Wait, so does this mean that even if I buy the Beta version of it I'll have to pay extra to get patches? Or does paying for the Beta version allow me to have all future versions for free like the Alpha version?

Either way, I've been meaning to get this game, but I'm reluctant to lose my life over it...
From my understanding of the situation, should Notch decide to do a pay-for expansion/DLC after release, anyone who buys during Alpha gets it for free, anyone who buys after the 20th will have to pay for it.

Damnit, that means I only have 6 days to decide whether to buy the game or not...

I dunno, for some reason I'm hesitant to get this game...I think it's the PayPal for some reason or whatever.

You'll get "Patches" free (such as bug fixes and the like), but major additions such as new modes or extra features that are introduced in later versions and the finished game costs extra. Currently if you buy the Alpha you will get both patches and the finished version for no extra fee.

I just hope they don't add any DRM to the game. I've been leeching off of a friend's account, and it would totally suck for me/him to have my/his levels inaccessible. Especially for me. :p

OT: i'm a bit confused what person means with "every future version". will people in beta have to pay more, and not get "future versions"? so they pay for beta, and then don't get a free upgrade to retail?
not that it would affect me, i was one of the first 1000 buyers.
As I understand it, buying after the 20th will still get you all of the content updates up to and including the retail version, and any patches and bugfixes of said retail version. If, however, there is pay-for DLC after release, people who buy after the 20th will have to pay for them, people who bought before the 20th will get the DLCs for free.

I'm not really that interested in getting it. Sure it may be entertaining, but my laptop is ubelieveably shit and doesn't seem to like the free, website one. Also, I'm currently in a house in which me and my three other siblings have accumulated one whole shitload of Lego in (and I can play with it with my youngest brother without looking too weird). I'm slightly worried that if I got Minecraft I would never get anything done too. WoW, I would be fine with, but the creative element in Minecraft would ruin my life.

I looked into playing MineCraft once. There were two versions or something, one cost money. And that was kinda it.

I'm interested in trying out the "full version" (whichever that is), but I don't wanna have to throw down any money to do it. I'm just not sure if I'd like it long term or not, if it's for me.

But lotsa people love it, so I'm sure it's doing something right. Congratulations to the creator are due based on that alone.
yes, because 10 euro? you could be ripped off :O it's the whole price of a movie ticket (and not even a 3D one).

They mean, you'll get all the patches and everything up until the game is finished.

There are people who still don't own Minecraft?
don't worry, my men will soon take care of them.
*looks around nervously and setups claymores near the entry points*

But seriously, I still don't get it: it's a sandbox, not a game ?

The free version's a sandbox but survival is kinda like a game with no end. You just kinda fight for safety

I'll buy it.....eventually.
It doesn't like to play nice with my Mac (or work PC for that matter) so I'm still up in the air about buying it.

From what I've seen though, it looks very meh (but with great potential).
