Soooo I realise minecraft have like a million players or so who have bought it and prob twice that number who play it illegally and i was wondering what the appeal is.

I have watched people play and i don't get it. So I understand that you build your own world? But then monsters come at night? Is the game just an exploratory game? Are there quest objectives to the game? Is there a story?

So tell me, do you like minecraft? Would you recommend it? Or have you found you grew tired of it quickly and are indifferent to it? Can you relate it as being kind of similar to any other games?

I figured the only way I would find out would be to buy it but i figured it would be interesting to hear you opinions as well. ty <3

I've grown indifferent to it. Yeah it was fun for a while, but a little after playing I just lost interest. Haven't really played since the Alpha and don't care enough to start it back up. If Notch finally adds some form of in-game tutorial I'll probably give it another shot. I hate having to keep the Wiki open to know what the hell I'm doing.

As for what it is, its basically a sandbox game in its purest form.

Right, quick answers.
Yes, you are put into a world where you can destroy and create at will, to make whatever you like.
Yes, monsters come at night, but you can turn them off by turning the difficulty to Peaceful.
Yes, it can be exploratory, depending how ya play it.
No, theres no objectives or story. Pure sandbox.

Now, as for reccomendations - I need to ask - How creative are you? If you're not imaginative, then you may find this lacking, but if you have a large imagination, youll find endless stuff to do. There's also mods you can download to make it even better.

Short version: If you're a creative person, get this yesterday.

I shouldn't really say anything since i havent played it, but it looks pretty boring, only thing that i would want to do there is look at other peoples work, i don`t have that much time to build anything of my own, since i reckon it takes a looong to accomplish anything.

It's fun at times I suppose. I recently got into it and it's fun with others but now I'm growing bored of it and don't feel any inclination to go back to it.

There might be goals and objectives in the coming patch. It's supposed to add achievements and "paths". Don't expect an RPG though.

It's good if you like freedom. It builds a vast world right in front of your eyes and says "Go have fun, do whatever." Imo, What's not to like?
Sometimes you don't want a story. Sometimes you don't want guidelines. Sometimes you just want to climb to the top of a cliff and dive into the sea just becuase you can.

Hope that helps.:)

It all depends on how much imagination you have, I know for some of my friends the game seemed incredibly dull and pointless, but I personally found that it's lack of any real story or narritive drive is one of it's biggest strengths. It truly is a completly sandbox game.

If you still feel uncertain, you can always try out the free to play alpha version, which lacks a lot of the new beta content, but still gives you a good feel for the game. Also, check out some youtube minecraft series, My personal favorite is the yogscast, but they don't really need any more advertising.

I hate it. I did know what i wanted to build, but i gave up because gathering resources got boring.

Hm it sounds kind of interesting and I could be creative but I wouldn't feel any sense of accomplishment if there was nothing to complete and the game is never ending. A lack of story doesnt sound too intriguing either.

Pretty much Notch just goes here have a randomly generated world and go nuts and build whatever you want. The only limit is your imagination. Kinda corny but its pretty much the best description. And for a game still in its beta stages to be so widely loved and obsessed over i think it kinda proves its point as to how good of a game it is.

I don't think it's fair to say that you'll enjoy Minecraft only if you have a "big imagination." I like to think I'm imaginative; I spend half my days daydreaming all sorts of crazy things but I'm finding after getting FortressCraft that I still find myself at a loss for what I want to build.

I like to have SOME incentive besides building and surviving for the sake of it. My dream would be for Mojang to include randomly generated dungeons full of monsters (if they haven't already, that is) for me to spelunk for awesome loot. No RPG, mind you, but something else to do besides just straight up building.

The sense of accomplishment comes from your completed projects.

I see. Well have fun collapsing due to the lack of sleep later.
Oh that will happen when my second wind dies out. Or is this my fourth wind. I can't remember.

Its good fun, very much so at the start. How long you keep playing it depends on how long you can amuse yourself by building things.
