There's a difference between having a right to free speech and to defend you work and then there is making something for the sole purpose of offending everyone for no reason.
Job well done ModDB.
Job well done ModDB.
My thoughts exactly.James Raynor said:And ModDB crumbles under pressure.
I like the quotes on that spoilered page, it really just goes to show what this SchoolShooter mod could've been if the ban hammer hadn't struck. I'm torn between believing that a game like this is just flat wrong, wanting to try it on the basis of just a game to see what it's like, and wanting to try it on the basis of forcing thought to see how it stands up against other mods we take to be thought-provoking like Dear Esther and such.GrimHeaper said:Put the elements of a school and shooting in a game for America and it gets banned...
Pretty much the rule people are jumpy these days.
I would suggest watching the video on the webpage.
Honestly we kill people all of the time in games. Modern Warfare, halo,(insert shooter here).
Even small children at that in a game on the DS called Contact and possibly others I don't know of.
SO I don't see the big deal with this really, just people overreacting as always making things worse than they actually are. Scared is what they are.
Well said but I think you can stand up for moral principles by saying this game crosses the line. Where is the line? The moral line is just like good micro in Starcraft; I can't define it but I sure as hell know it when I see it.GothmogII said:Always a but isn't there? We're all for freedom of expression. But. An oxymoron that always bothered me that.
Still, hadn't had plans to play the thing anyway, still feels that for all the times games like GTA, Mortal Kombat, Postal et al. are defended it comes off as people sitting on a scale with regards to what they're willing to allow with fiction, replete with points at which they think things have gone too far.
I'm not expecting people to defend the content, just that they stick to their principles (if indeed they claim freedom of speech or expression as one of those), and yes, that means taking the shit with the gold. What you feel comfortable with and what makes you want to vomit. And again, you are under no obligation to view on consume any material with which you find offensive.
I could watch that all day.Onyxious said:Meanwhile at the offices of Valve Incorporated...
