In the US, the price hasn't risen in years. The price is still $60 for the basic, $80 for the, what is it, "Hardcore" edition, and $150 for the Prestige edition. I do no think that this is necessarily Activations doing. I sympathize however; I come from a very poor family, sixty dollars is more money then I see in a month.

That is pretty disgusting. It should fall pretty fast unless people actually justify the price by paying it.

Is this price change going to effect Europe as well?
Because we're already paying 60 Euros for new games, 65 for some depending on where you buy them.

I'm not going to get it if they up the damn price any further.

Oh wow I didn't realize that was 90 USD. Well that game better be worth it. Or the prestige edition, at least.

You can play any game you want, you don't have to buy it if you don't think it's worth your money.

has anyone actually read the article about this on the escapist? Because when i read it it seemed like this they wouldn't be able to make a good profit because of the weak pound if they priced it normally though what they mean by a good profit is questionable.

Please correct me if my reading skills have failed.

Hmm.. effect of this = me not buying this at launch, loads of people getting the pirated version and loads of people waiting for it to appear in the pre-played sections at gamestop.

90 bucks for a game, thats overpriced or the game has to be ridiculously good which I doubt. God damn Activision starting to act like EA, but in a different directsion.
These companies wonder why used games and piracy are thriving?
Rather, how could all the cheap pirates not see this coming?

Ok, wow. What is equivalent to $90 is not a good price for a game unless it comes with a special controller or other peripheral.

Because I refuse to pay £55 for any game I will buy it when the price goes down but Activision can fuck off if they think I'm buying it at launch.
Honestly I think you're being a bit of a pansy. New Zealand pays $140 RRP for a game like that. And i still buy them.
$140?!?!
You poor Kiwi you, the highest I've seen in Aus was $120 for Bioshock on PS3.
Still, you're right - if you want the game that bad, it's only an extra $40 for something that brings you many joys ^_^

(p.s $55 pounds is basically equivalent to $140 NZ Dollars, if you're interested)
But isn't that just because of poor New Zealand currency exchange? I'm not sure I'm no economist but I guess if you were to make that comparison you would have to see what the average wages are in each country, say if on average Kiwis are payed 3 times more than British people then I could say that you were being ripped off, but if we were payed the same well I would tell you to grow a pair :D
It's 9:30a.m - bad time to be consulting me for financially based information.

OH FUCK THEM.

Ahem. That's just not fair! I have always brought games, I don't download them and I'm getting punished for it? Well bollocks I say. Well they've just lost a customer. Internet piracy here I come.
Weakling.
Trolling much?
Maybe I am ? Maybe I'm not.

Maybe I'm behind you with an axe ?

Nah, I just think that illegally downloading games is badong (note: badong = bad + wrong = badong)
That being said, I too think it's wrong, hence why I went back and changed my original message after I'd cooled off. I don't download the games, if they're too expensive I just don't buy them, or wait for a pre owned copy.
Good to see we're on the same side.

Now hug me you big lump 'o sugahh!
How romantic
*swoons in bed of roses*

I'll just add what I posted in the news essentially.

People are struggling as it is, with unemployment in the hundreds of thousands, families cutting back as it is to feed their kids, or just themselves as they find new jobs. Not one of them would fork out extra cash to what is essentially a glorified hobby, nor will parents buy anywhere near the same amount of games for their kids for Christmas (If they can afford the one).
All this will mean from here is I just don't buy anywhere near the total I was originally planning. I'm sure I'm not alone there, and a the collective response of people refusing to buy the games in the first place will surely be enough of a reprisal to such a stupid motion by Activision and IW. I knew some developers were detached from their fans, but this is a new level of absurdness.

When did 100 bucks become expensive for a game? All new games released in Sweden goes for 100-110$.

Boo-fucking-hoo.
Who the hell cares?
This game has already the MSRB price of $75 in Europe.
This is something Europeans have to deal with (and worse) every single f'-ing day.
This is not news. This is just a bunch of crying for nothing.

I just checked the price for Modern Warfare 2 here in Sweden and it is $78 so $10 less without ANY price hike.
We deal with this shit on regular basis.
No big deal. This is seriously not news.
Crying and bitching about this is an insult to what we Europeans have to deal with every day.

What I find cheeky is that they will come up with excuses such as blaming it on preowned titles attributing to losses, thus the raise was needed.

Quit bitching. I don't see Ford blaming their downfall on second hand cars being sold thus meaning less of new cars are being bought.

It up to you, the developers and the publishers to do something to compete with them. Otherwise, I can get four games for the price of a brand new COD MW2. Do the math.

Oh and by the way, putting prices up means that more people will by preowned. Nice tactics, smartass.
