Nah, I don't believe 'em.
No way they can pull that off when like every other new popular game that comes out is £45. Mind you, I forked over £60 for ODST with the limited edition controller, and when I preordered the Hardened edition of Modern Warfare 2 from GAME they said it's £60 so if the normal edition really is £55 it won't make much difference.

90 bucks for a game, thats overpriced or the game has to be ridiculously good which I doubt. God damn Activision starting to act like EA, but in a different directsion.
Did you just seriously spell direction with an "s"?

Don't want to play Devil's advocate on this thread, because I can sense the rage, but the whole reason they raised the price was because Modern Warfare 2 has cost a hell of a lot more to make. While most people don't give a shit and want the price to stay the same, Activision (or Infinity Ward) want to have as much of that extra cost covered as possible. From what I understand they're not demanding that much for every game that's released from this point onwards but rather a one time extra payment. I'm not sure if this is the complete truth but it would explain the sudden price rise. I'd like to keep my naivete and believe not everyone in the industry is a money hungry shilock.

And while a lot of you are saying shit like this is making piracy rise, you've got to realise that it's a chicken and the egg sort of thing. Piracy fucks over the people who makes the games/music/movies so they turn around and screw you back which makes more people screw them the next time. I'm personally inclined to believe that it was pirates who fired the first shot. In the interest of full disclosure, I'm a very amateur developer with hopes of one day making games and so I naturally fall on the side of the fence that isn't going to steal the product I worked hard on.

Also I'm from Australia and games have always costed this much for me, at least since I started buying them for myself, so you can understand when I say to "Harden up" and dry those tears.

Yeah, no shit. *chuckling while saying it*

This whole $90 thing is only in the UK right?
Not trying to be a dick and rub it in, just wondering.

Like we need more reasons for this country to suck. I'll probably get it though, just trade in a couple of old games and get it for about £20, either that or wait a couple of months, Assasins Creed 2 and Leaft 4 Dead 2 come higher up my purchase list personally.

Meh. I can afford it, so I'm not too fussed. Sorry if that sounds like I'm rubbing it in.

Then again, I'm such a rich bastard I'm trying to pre-order the Prestige Edition.
From now on I shall call you.. Mr. Moneybags! :D

OT:That sucks, but I live in America, so the game is still only $60, which I can afford, so...

You're going to miss a hell of a lot of fun then.

I'd pay that for any game I'd get 17 days worth of gameplay out of.

MW2 is retailing for $69.99 CAD (about £40.00 GBP) which is at least $10.00 more than I'm willing to shell out for a video game, thankyouverymuch. Activision is obviously taking advantage of the pound being worth more than the dollar, but I think it might just backfire on them.

Holiday shopping frenzies aside, I think most people (Except for the upper-middle class types who give their precious snowflakes anything the little shits want) will wait until the price goes down after Christmas, which will be the big litmus test to see if the price gouging holds up or not. I'm guessing it will, just based on the aforementioned ineffectual parents with credit cards, who will buy their brats anything no matter how pricey.

Ah video games, we love you. We hate you. We need you, but we aren't your *****! Developers need to start realizing that reasonable prices equals profit, because more people will buy your product if they don't have to take out a second mortgage or give up on say, eating for about a week. Yeah $90 isn't that big a deal, but that's not the point.

Slapping an unreasonable price tag on a game just serves to alientate those of us that don't have tons and tons of disposable income, and we're the main demographic these guys are catering to!

My initial response to this thread wasn't entirely a good one. With some thought though, it isn't too bad.

I'd be happy to pay an extra £15 for a game I want and I won't go against the developer for raising their prices. The only time I'll start complaining is when it becomes adopted as a norm.

£55 for every game released is a little too much, pennies do turn to pounds. If you buy 5 new games, that'd cost £275, an extra £75 spent that you could of put to other uses. Instead of being against the price change decision, be thankful it isn't the norm.

As for the Aussies saying "Get used to it", no I won't. Sure you guys may have to pay that price for every game, but we don't. This is a pretty big change in cost for us and doesn't actually concern you. Not being rude.

I'd also like to point out that this change has been happening alot anyway, DLC. You have to pay more to actually own full games, game companies will find ways to make money off you. Hopefully CoD MW2 is cutting to the chase and charging £55, not making you have to pay more for extra content. As I said though, that's just hoping.

Anyway, if you don't like the cost. Don't buy it and be patient.

Because I refuse to pay £55 for any game I will buy it when the price goes down but Activision can fuck off if they think I'm buying it at launch.
If you want it for cheaper http://www.play.com/Games/Xbox360/4-/8771809/Call-Of-Duty-Modern-Warfare-2/Product.html there it is at £45 off of play.com

Wow, EA is actually going for helping the people...
Does Activision realize they're alienating... Who am I kidding? People will still buy it. Why don't you people boycott the industry when it pulls this crap? Hell, this is a better reason to boycott than Left 4 Dead 2...

EDIT: you have my support. I live in America, and I'm now going to boycott Modern Warfare 2.
