I play both about the same amount, although only halo system linked at a friends, the only thing I can say is that the MW2 sniping is plain ridiculous. I wouldn't notice it that much if I didn't see the kill cam... people just take random shots roughly where you are, and a hit anywhere on your body kills you... even if they don't hit you at all. From their perspective.

It's almost like SSF2T-HDR where it masks lag differences, except even on their screen from exactly what they saw... they just plain missed...

DEFINATELY, all it needs is a rts and the next MW might be called Modern warfare 3: Master chiefs revenge.

I don't really like any of the Halos, but the first Modern Warfare was pretty good. I'm just wondering if I should even bother with the second one.

Mw2's story was bland?

....

...

What?
Even though the story was a little more radical, it was WAY better than the first one in my opinion. Cause I like playing games for some good old, not-going-to-happen story-lines, not realistic ones. That'd be just boring.

Other than that yeah, I agree with OP.

Then why are they so popular if they suck?
The same reason Miley Cyrus and Twilight are popular.
Care to explain it (since I don't fully understand myself)?
Lemmings that will eat anything up because it has a certain name attached to it.

In other words, they're popular for no other reason than because they're popular.
but that doesn't explain how they became popular in the first place...

I guess it's the "cool" thing to hate modern warfare 2 as well as halo.
Ah the battlecry of the butthurt.

Maybe the reason people hate Halo and Modern Warfare 2 isn't because they want to be cool, but maybe because Halo and MW2 are just shit games?

The average intelligence and taste of the mob isn't exactly well developed. There's a reason there's a market for swill like the new Star Trek movie and the Transformers flicks. Why Lady Gaga, and all them other terrible artists are able to get popular. Why a book as badly written as Twilight can make a fortune.

The mob rules, and it's as dumb as a brick. It doesn't take a whole lot of effort to tap into that, feed the mob garbage, and still make money. It's why media of all types has geared towards becoming so banal and idiotic. Case in point, Modern Warfare 2. MW2 is not a good game, it's not even a well made game. The multiplayer had to have been playtested by a bunch of drunks. Yet it's popular because the 360 spread gaming to the masses so that the fratboy mentality is what controls what becomes popular now.
many people say that fratboy mentality is taking over or has taken over America, and the way you put your last sentence along with a sort of feel in most of the rest makes it sound like you're complaining about it being open to everyone, which sounds like the battle cry of the upset elitist; as for the rest, until that last sentence you had me wondering about the apparent discrepancy with things that are good being left by the wayside, but then I re-evaluated your intelligence and taste comment, but even dumb people with bad taste can like good things, so your argument isn't without flaws; finally, I didn't like Lady Gaga either until I actually listened to one of her songs, and, as much as I don't like to admit it, it was pretty good

Well sure, and someone with great taste and is fairly cultured can like crunk as a guilty pleasure. The catch is, is that that individual is also usually quick to admit that it's crappy music even though they like it anyway.

I don't mind gaming being open to everyone, but if it comes at the cost of game quality then hell yeah I mind. Seeing your hobby that you've been at for twenty years get watered down and dished out to idiots is never fun.

When you start marketing your product to the lowest common denominator you're essentially marketing to the basest of human impulses. Modern Warfare 2 is a great example. That game is hardly a cohesive, well balanced product, but it does great because it taps into the broadest possible market. Sure the game isn't very well fleshed out or balanced, but it's fast paced, has lots of explosions, and tons of "OH BRO DID YOU SEE THAT!?" situations, this goes for both the single player and multiplayer. To me, it's an unbalanced, muddled piece of crap that needed to spend another year in developement. To most everyone it's a fun game, but if you try asking them why they really can't put their finger on anything specific. That's what I mean by tapping into the base human impulse. It's essentially the gaming equivalent of "oooh shiny." Then, of course, when someone like me comes along and says it sucks these people get all indignant and just have a temper tantrum claiming "I'm just hating it to try and be cool."
