Still the 31st in Stockholm, but he might have put it up early just in case. Or perhaps it's only because he beat out Valve and decided to make a playful jab.

OT: I would pay for that helmet, torches are such a pain.

Also, the Creeper saddle is actually Minecraft's fast travel system. Find a creeper, align yourself in the general direction that you want to go, then hang on to the saddle as you're propelled into the atmosphere. (Note: NotchCorp advises inventing a parachute before traveling)

If this wasn't the same day that I learned that Mojang AB had beaten Valve in the March Mayhem competition, I would have just laughed and moved on. Now I'm tempted to say that Notch is being a cocky bastard. Thankfully it's just a joke.
