Yes, we're all very *winces* "pleased" (some more than others) that the "underdog" (at this point, I'd hardly consider Mojang an underdog anymore) has triumphed over the behemoth that is Valve Corporation, but a little journalistic integrity never killed anybody.

"The concept of a "Company Store" selling low-priced virtual novelty items for use in a videogame is certainly a fresh one and I think Notch and the rest of the team at Mojang deserve credit for pioneering this new and unique approach to customer service."
When Valve did it, they were money-grubbing whores. When an indie developer does it, it's "fresh...new and unique".

One more thing. "[The] bloated corporate machines like Valve, who just don't have what it takes to come up with this kind of original idea.", you're joking right? PORTAL WAS THE MOST ORIGINAL THING ANYONE IN THIS INDUSTRY HAS COME UP WITH IN THE PAST DECADE AND ANYONE THAT SAYS OTHERWISE IS DAFT! The story, the humour, the characters, the physics, nobody will ever create something so golden ever again. I'd LOVE to see where modern gaming would be today without Half-Life or its many derivatives and successors. Valve reinvented the FPS, created several of gaming's most beloved icons (Hell, they don't call us "The Church of Gordon Freeman" for nothing), and are a powerhouse when it comes to gaming and innovation. But the second they lose to a "indie developer", they're just another faceless leviathan who doesn't care about gaming.

Anyone who says Valve has lost touch needs to replay through Half Life and be reminded of how many things they gave us.

Gaming has completely forgotten its roots, and it disgusts me.

The Portal Gun is one of the many things wrong with Valve. Valve throws out bankable things out of the window, they don't produce titles on a regular basis to keep us entertained, their cheap prices are devaluing the video game market...

They could do well by taking a leaf out of Activision's book. Activision - now here's a company that understands and cares for the future of gaming!

Portal was a one trick pony and the only reason anyone enjoyed it was because of GLaDOS's witty banter.

Portal is one of the most over-hyped pieces of trash since Half-Life 2, a game that was 70% doing the same physics puzzle over and over, and 30% worst driving sections in the history of gaming and anyone who says otherwise is just following the herd.
