It's not April 1st, guys. Seriously. NOT April 1st.

Guess I need to be skeptical of every article I read both on April 1st and the days adjacent to it. Excellent.
Notch lives in Sweden. Probably already April 1st where he lives.

The concept of a "Company Store" selling low-priced virtual novelty items for use in a videogame is certainly a fresh one and I think Notch and the rest of the team at Valve [http://www.mojang.com/], who just don't have what it takes to come up with this kind of original idea. Good job, Notch!
Excuse me, but from the looks of this, Notch made it based off of Team Fortress 2's shop (hence the "Steve Co." gag on "Mann Co.". I wouldn't say he's the first.

You almost got me until I read that bullshit about pricing in the second paragraph. I should have known from the picture, but I figured if it was real (I stopped paying attention to MM after my ballot somehow get messed up), Notch was merely poking fun at Valve with it. If you want to pull off a decent April Fool's day article, you can't be so obvious. Talk to The Onion. They'll tell you guys the right way how to do it.

Also, isn't it the 31st? April Fool's is tomorrow. Unless my calendar is playing a joke on me.

ok op, I'm not sure if you are joking around or not. If you are joking disregard the rest of this post, and if you are serious keep reading.

Yes, Minecraft (not mojang) is a good game. However, since this is Mojang's only game it is yet to be shown if the company is good or if this is just a fluke. I've got nothing against them, but I do want to take an analytical standpoint on the March Madness debate.

Saying valve is too much of an over-bloated company to think of this kind of virtual store is what has me confused about if you're being sarcastic or not. I'm sure I'm not the only one who plays TF2 and everyone else who does would know as well as I thatValve has made a Mann Co. Store. This store is exactly what you describe the minecraft store to be and has been out for... well I won't pretend that I remember how long, but it has been a very long time.

So op if you are indeed kidding then I apologize for wasting bandwidth and posting such a long comment :p.

However if you are not kidding, please note that you have just made yourself look very stupid and need to get your facts straight next time you post something to the community.

Sounds like a nice little idea that serves as a midpoint between the non-functional aesthetic purchase feature and the balance-shattering gameplay purchase feature. From the sound of the names, they probably don't serve any direct purpose in-game, but they do serve to just be fun little trinkets (Riding around on a creeper? Sounds neat.)

Of course, there's also the chance this is just a joke, especially given how ludicrous some of the prices are and how silly some of the items seem. 99 dollars for a name change is the biggest indicator, considering 15 dollars could just buy you a new copy of the game under a different name.

Edit: After looking around a bit more, I'm fairly certain this is just a joke. Notice the 5-pack of keys costs as much as 6 keys would. The "response from support" is a crack at the number of people who complain because when they submit a bug report, Mojang rarely ever sends a response (they usually get to work on it instead of wasting time writing a response to the several million reports they receive every week)

Second edit: Oh yeah, Notch is in a different time zone, so it's already April Fool's day for him. That explains it.

The concept of a "Company Store" selling low-priced virtual novelty items for use in a videogame is certainly a fresh one and I think Notch and the rest of the team at Mojang deserve credit for pioneering this new and unique approach to customer service. Innovations like this are precisely why I like to support indie developers over bloated corporate machines like Valve, who just don't have what it takes to come up with this kind of original idea. Good job, Notch!
Blizzard totally hasn't been doing this since D2 days :D

A time zone in which its still March 31st.

Sweden, GMT +6, so about 11:47 PM as of right now.

So as a thank you they allow you to buy more stuff?

Doesn't sound much like a "thank you". Not that there is a problem with it, just the wording seems off to me.

If you're fairly sure it's a joke, click the buy button. Or put $10000 worth of items in your cart.
