Molyneux: Don't Judge Kinect by its Launch Titles

Even though the first games that come out of Kinect do look bad. I do genuinely believe that good games can and will surface from this. A new way to interact with your game is not a bad thing if done right. And if you don't want to just don't buy it. I do think that good games will be made for Kinect eventually and that's why I'm getting it.

Im disappointed about Fable 3, and about the chance that Milo won't be released, i was really hoping that those games would persuade me to buy Kinect

Well, that's too bad for him. Launch Titles determine what we're going to be in for, so you better make them good or expect a bad season. That's just how I feel anyway.
But look at the PS3! The system had a not so great launch in terms of good games.
It's certainly a great system now, but it's launch library was pretty poor.

I'll be getting Kinect for my wife and my non-gaming family. I think it'll be a blast for them to play!
And I hope Mr. Molyneux is right about the 2nd wave of games!
Plus Dance Central and Child of Eden both look sweet.

I think it'll find it's market.

And here's what Kinectamals reminds me of...

I am sorry to say this, but Kinect (though the technology is vastly improved from similar past ideas *cough* PS2 *cough*) will not be as good as MS expect it to be (Is not going to appeal to the hardcore gamer), having said that, Kinect does have an advantage, it will appeal to the casual gamer, and as the Wii probed, there is a huge market potential there.

Oh, Peter. You should adress the people during an apocalyptic scenario.

"Don't worry, everyone! This will be just fine! I have all the confidence that we're going to develop spacecraft, and we can all fly away from this and colonize an entirely new planet, it'll be fantastic...!"

And then a house falls over and crushes him. And the people rejoice.
And then they die. Because hey, it's an apocalypse.
...and we can interact with the citizens of the new planet and use the 3D spaceship controls that use rooms in stead of buttons!

Like what? You can't play any games where you can move the characterso its basically going to be party games and mini games. As bad of a rip off as the Move is at least I can look foward to Socery, Gran Turismo 5, Dead Space 2/Extraction, Killzone 3, Socom 4.

Can anything crush Molyneux's optimism?
Punching baby seals? Anyone? Or perhaps killing puppies and dolphins.
If i interpret past interviews and statements from/with him, mentioning specific broken promises that he made about past games should do the trick (like the growing a tree bit in Fable 1)

On-Topic: Good Games for Kinect could convince me. Promises that everything will be better in the future really won't.

There's so much potential with Kinect, maybe it'll be a reverse Wii.

The Wii started solid, turned SHOVELWARE.

The Kinect is starting SHOVELWARE...hopefully, it'll turn solid.

To that I note the difference between PS3 from launch trying to make sales by it's "potential" and a year and some change later when they did make sales by "having quality games" (and a drop in price)

Basically this will be a PS3 scenario where in the beginning no one knew how to program for it so you got a lot of mediocre games, but once developers understood how to code for it you're seeing a lot of better working/looking games.

How did such a inovative and imaginitive game creator fall so low as to be MS's pet ?

Guy gave us Populous, Magic Carpet, Dungeon Keeper, Syndicate, Black & White ... reduced to 360 sequels ( with a PC port some titles) and MS PR work.

Peter , you should of retired before Fable, when you were at the top.

I just think he learned his lesson with the 360. Anyone remember their launch titles?

I think that picture of Kinect bowling seals the debate on visual design over polygon count. The Wii offering looks far more attractive.. this picture looks like something Epic would churn out.

Wait..... isn't this kinda what they said about... oh god what was that console? Oh yea the Wii and look how the turned out. Yes the Wii have Twilight Princess but the rest was mostly crap and it just got worse. Oh Mr. Molyneux your over loaded optimism is inspiring but comical at the same time. I wounder if he knows how much of a joke he is in the gaming community?

I see Kinect as a portal for RTS games to be made for 360 (not a sole reason for its existence). But as it is now, the controller is not a good interface for RTS games.
That being said, shooters will probably never be good for Kinect. I don't judge anything by launch titles. 360 didn't have anything I wanted to play, neither did ps3, and a lot of people I know felt the exact same way.
My gaming motto is thus: If its new, wait about 6-8 months, then you'll see the real meat... or fail.

I hope they can make the Kinect work hand in hand with a controller as I think that could make for some fun gameplay.
