Wait, wait, wait ,wait, wait. Peter Molyneux thinks he's never made a good game? Has he forgotten about the Black&White series and Fable? I think those were pretty damn good!

I for one, loved fable 1. I think it might actually make my top 5 list. just bellow elder scrolls and Kotor.

"my cousin says that these barrels might have stuff in em. Quick! while he's away, smash the barrels and see whats inside!"

probably my favourite gaming quote of all time ^^

Very admirable of him. Not a lot of people out there who have the guts to say things like that. I have to say I found myself nodding in agreement when he said no one would place any of his games in their top 5. This, for me at least, is certainly the case.
I loved Fable and Fable 2 was fun for a bit but they're a ways away from my top 5. It's is a shame because I really love RPGs and as far as his concepts for the Fable games go they are original, innovative and damn fun to read about, which is what makes it all the more disappointing when the actual game doesn't live up to the press releases that preceded it.

That being said I have not seen a single scrap of press release related to Fable 3, which means I will be buying it without a shred of hype in my mind :D

I'm amazed by how willing people are to sneer at someone who's admitting that what they've done isn't that great. It's like an artist saying "My work isn't exactly brilliant.." and your response is "You're right, IT'S SHIT!". I mean, can you not at least see that it's a good thing that he's always trying to improve his work?

I mean, in his time he's worked on Theme Park and Populous, meaning he's pretty much invented the genres of business sim and the god game.

Ol' Peter gets quite a bit of flak, but I think he's a great guy.
Here's hoping Fable 3 is a huge success.

I don't care what anyone says: I love Peter Molyneux.
He's the most enthusiastic game developer/designer/idea-man I've seen in the industry. Ever.
He tries new things, he puts his ideas to the test, he's his own worst critic, and he's willing to admit when he screws something up. Seriously, even if he over-promises on some aspects of his games: The guy has a real heart for the industry, and a real passion to keep things moving.

Hang in there, Pete!
I think everyone (on this site) knows he's the most enthusiastic guy in the gaming business. That doesn't make his games awesome, it makes him awesome.

Although, his games are pretty good... I don't pay attention to the hype, though, so I don't get disappointed like a lot of people.

Well, he sure isn't full of himself is he? Reminds me of a TV interview I saw of Bob Dylan. "Do you think you could ever make music like that again?" "Oh god no. My music was a product of the times. I couldn't do anything like that again if I tried."

Not quite the same, but close. One person doesn't think he's made it. The other knows he made it but is well aware that he could never do it again. Real perspectives from people who know themselves better than most in an age where everything is supposed to be "Me! Me! Me!" I admire them more for knowing who they are than I ever would have for the media they produced.

Pete, dude. You made Black and White, Black and White 2, Fable, Fable: The Lost Chapters, and The Movies. All of those games were orgasmic.

[small]And you made Fable 2. Which was very good, but not quite orgasmic. "Accidental-release-of-bodily-fluids-gasmic, maybe, but not quite orgasmic."[/small]

You made Fable 1 man. The game I replayed the second most after JSRF. I loved that game to death.

Never really got into any of the Fable games, so I can't really say anything.

I've never really played any Molyneux games interestingly enough. I borrowed them from friends and always handed them back feeling bored and unfulfilled (and unfinished), so I have to say he's right. They were good games, especially the Fable series, but there was absolutely nothing about them that made me keep playing. If I had to define them I would probably place them alongside Uncharted. They are almost completely by the books, with very few things I was able to find that made them special.

Even games I label as bad, like PROTOTYPE, had something (in that case the ability to hurl oneself hundreds of feet into space off the Empire State Building and remain unharmed) that made them at least passable enjoyment. Fable might very well get better later, as I've heard a lot of people claim, but if I never wanted to play it enough to get to 'later' then it's never going to make it into my 'favourite games' list.

How about they stop flogging the dead donkey that is Fable and go back to making great games like B+W and Populous?
