Mom Calls 911 Over Son's Non-Stop Gaming

The mom's stupid and the kid was probably being an ass. Nothing new. It just escalated further than should ever be reasonable. And I'm really surprised the police actually responded to this.

Although, I don't really think it's that bad for a 14 yr old to play GTA. IF the parent knows that the kid understands the difference between reality and the game world. As in, the parent lets the kid play the game out of trust not out of ignorance. I was about 14-ish when I played GTA 3. Seven years later, I can safely say that besides spending some fun nights of speeding away from the cops(in-game), all I took away from that game is a couple of funny references about hookers and cops that only people who played the game would get.

Omg the stupid people in this world. Calls theh cops because she can't teach her kid to limit games? If he likes it, of course he is going to play it. It's her fault that she let it get this far

I'm going with the "both people present are at fault"; the mother for making a rather poor decision and the child for not obeying the rules of the household.

I don't see how the church comes into this at all, personally.

um... ok, THen I have a problem as well. As do many of my friends when we play wow and Tf2 for almost 20hours in a row. Infact, im in the middle of one right now.
I stand by my point son, I'm sure you are a nice person but if a marathon of gaming like that happens more than 3 times a month I say you might want to try doing something else, I live in a pretty boring town and I find things to do
I only do once a every now and then i would say 1 every two months

Is it wrong that I read that and though, "well that explains everything"?
Not at all. I had the same reaction. :p I've been gaming all my, admittedly fairly short, life and I have yet to even try drugs. :p And I play Saint's Row. And I can actually remember back to 2D top-down GTA. I'm sick of this stuff. I know this may sound slightly of topic, but it seems her main problem was with all the violence. *gasp* Oh no. Also, "I have support from my church, but I'm alone." Huh? Wait, you have support, but you're alone. I'm sorry, what? :S :p

My parents would tell me half an hour before that it was going off at say, 9pm, then at 9pm no buts, it would get switched off, and I'm sure if I'd sneaked back to turn it back on, it would get removed instead of just turned off.

The only reason my parents gave me the half hour warning was my explanation to them that sometimes you needed a little time to get to a place where you could stop, like in other 'real' games, they listened, understood, and chose a sensible rule to cover this new information.

It's that simple, no need for 911, no need to wreck a valuable piece of tech, and everyone's ok.

Damn my parents weren't some kind of experts, they made mistakes, hell so did I as a kid, but damn, how hard is it to get it vaguely right most of the time.

Yes, it is prejudice and just a bit cliche. Though I guess it is America, so you're excused opinion is valid. Churches seem be rather different over there.

A) the kid must be a pain to live with and is probably a spoilt brat. He is 14, how did he get the game if she didn't buy it for him :S or someone else older.
B) If she has to ring an emergancy number because her son isn't going to sleep then she has some serious issues. Firstly she is waisting valuable police and emergancy services time and she really isn't a brilliant parent if she didn't raise him to respect her. If she really didn't like the game then why did she allow him to play it.
It really annoys me when people phone the emergancy services for something which is not an emergancy.

Why does shit like that never happen in my country. And we have no laws or censorship when it comes to video games. Im serious 12-13 year old children play GTA in computer clubs or buy it in stores with NO PROBLEM. Sometimes it pays to live in a country with bigger problems than violence in video games

ADOPT ME!!!! failling that what country us this that you speak of?

OT: the mother sounds like a fundie wackjob and the boy sounds like a dissobediant shit, she shouldn't have called the police she should just have removed the console, the tv and all the games from his room without saying a word. seriously letting him have those in his room is asking for trouble

Yeah, can't help but notice the lack of a father in the story.

If you're going to be a single mom, you should probably grow a pair of balls and deal with your 14 year old.

Playing a videographic simulational infotainment device, you say?
At 2:30 IN THE AM?!
GASP AND SHOCK AND ALSO AWE!

Normal humanoids do not remain conscious at 2:30 in the AM! That is deviant behavior! SUBJUGATE THE DEVIANT; NON-COMPLIANCE WILL NOT BE TOLERATED!
