Well, how's a 14-year old boy going to get hold of GTA without her buying it for him? And Christ, he only stayed up a few extra hours to play a game! Ooooh, arrest this boy, he must be fabricating some ridiculous kind of rape-murder plot for the whole city! Stupid *****.

But seriously? Ringing the police? What happened to the good old days? When I was 7 I had a huge argument with my mom, called her a stupid *****. Were the police called? No, she promptly decimated my playstation with the floor, threw me in my room, and let me tantrum myself into passing out, then when I got up, you bet your ass there was an apology waiting for her.

Seriously though, this mother either needs the kid putting into care, cause she can't take care of him clearly, or she needs to open her damn eyes. Failing that, she needs to be put down like an injured racehorse.

A child? DISOBEDIENT?
Oh damn, the world is officially ending.
Christ, when I was that age (A long time ago, a whole two years) I often stayed up all night playing games. When Mom caught me, guess what happened? She calmly told me to stop. I calmly told her I didn't want to. She calmly listed the Pros and Cons of the situation. I went to bed.
Parents really need to start respecting the kids enough not to blow up when they actually do something they want to do, even when it is contrary to the parents wishes. That's probably that 'free will' thing acting up.
Oh, and why was that church quote mentioned? Seems like it would generate exactly the hating response that it has here, everywhere.

That kid had better watch out his mother has got the support of her church and we know what happens when they start a crusade

The fact that she let her kid play GTA IV in the first place speaks volumes. I'm really not surprised that if she is such a bad parent that she lets her kid play a game she so strongly disapproves of, that she is also such a poor parent that she has to call the cops to handle a misbehaving child. Of course its also possible that the kid has behavioral problems, but in that case, DON'T BUY THE KID THE GAME IN THE FIRST PLACE! Come on. The games name is a felony. If you can't figure out that this is something inappropriate for children, then you should not be having kids.

This is why I am a huge fan of that site linked a while ago, Common Sense Media. Sure, sometimes they have no idea what there talking about as gamers, they do make it a bit obvious that the writers don't go home and play a round of Modern Warfare, but they certainly have a mission statement of being a comprehensive, unbiased evaluation tool for informing parents on how to help there kids have a positive, appropriate experience with video games. Really, if Common Sense Media became a household name, every parent would have to STFU about video games being evil.

A stressed-out Boston mother recently decided that the best way to handle her young son's non-stop videogaming was to call 911 on him.

My grand ma heard about this on super conservative talk radio. Believe it or not the conservatives are strongly on are side in this case. They believe this is a classic example of poor parenting.

Seriously, round of applause for the red wackos anyone?

Sounds like the woman who blamed microsoft for her son stealing her credit card..

This is just another example of how bad parenting is getting.
When you think about it, it's not really parenting that's getting bad, it's the environment that's changing. Anytime soon, though, they'll be filtered out and we'll have the new generation step in. Y'know, like people on these forums. :D

How on Earth did a kid sneak something into his house that his parents did not approve of? Kids have never, ever snuck something into their house without their parent's approval. That is why America does not have a problem with teens doing drugs and drinking alcohol. Also, the only store that has carded me for a video game before was a Best Buy, and that included buying GTA Vice City when I was 13 from a Gamestop. Seriously, it's not that hard to buy a game your not supposed to.

"I have the support of my church"
Just read a few of my old religion-based posts back and you'll probably see what I think about that!

"I want to help my son, but I can't find a way."
Oh I dont know, maybe you should...learn to control him maybe? Seriously, if you cant talk to him without having the constabulary out and about then you shouldnt be his mother!

"If you don't respect your mother, what are you going to do in your life?"
Alot of things. I havent even got a smart remark about that, its just complete bullshit.

"That she went to the extreme of calling the police tells me more about her level of frustration than anything else."
Well it tells me that she cant control a child she has obviously let become a spoilt brat and I think I have more right to talk about a video game than someone who probably hasnt played one since Pacman got a taste for the colour blue!

Doesn't like GTA, and wouldn't buy it...

Hang on, how was he playing it?

Also, mentioniong church? I'm sorry, your argument just died a sorry death, and you suck as a parent. Learn how to man up and deal with it.

Okay, a lot of people seems to talk the talk, but how about walking the walk? what is good parenting?

It's pretty easy saying something is fail, after it fails.

I'm all for the fact that this was far out, but I kind feel that there's insufficient information about the situation, to call if the mother is overreaction, or if this was some a last resort thing.

Do you seriously think the Escapist-type person is the majority of the populace? Oh no no no,the majority of the new generation are making court appointed appearences on the Jeremy Kyle show!

Is it wrong that I read that and though, "well that explains everything"?
