Yes, it is wrong. There are a few wack-job radical religious people, that make headlines because of their stupidity. Then it gives the rest of us a bad name. I go to church (altough not recently...hmmmm) and I believe in God, but I will play the shit out of Gears of War or Saint's Row (not GTA, because I don't really care for them, but that is another thread).

Anyway, my point is that a few radicals can really make an entire group seem like something they are not. Just ask any Muslim person....

That's a good point and I'm well aware that certain aspects groups can be exaggerated by people who take things to the extreme. But this is a somewhat extreme case. She rallied her church/community together, and called the police, to stop her son playing a video game, to 'save' her son when all he did was pull an all nighter, who hasn't done that before?

Good thing you're so much more tolerant than the religious people, otherwise you would just judge them based on their WAIT A MINUTE.

Anyone who decides to not listen to this person or any person based on personal religious beliefs is someone who's opinion is inconsequential. Without the respect to listen society will never change.

With all that said, there may be some deeper issues inside this story. Obviously nobody's first instinct when their child won't go to bed is "Call the Police." Luckily, no one on these forums will give her any benefit of the doubt, so I'll do it instead.

You know how there are some bad people out in the world? Well sometimes bad people used to be bad kids. Some bad kids live in homes where the authority level is low, so they adopt an attitude of superiority. This is very bad, typically for submissive mothers. So you take a jerk kid and a Mom who showers her little baby with love and he turns into a jerkass who doesn't listen to anything she says and treats her like crap.

Their differing personalities make this difficult to rectify, as she won't speak up to him and he won't listen to her. Usually in these scenarios it's an only child vs. single parent.

I'm going to go ahead and assume that their repeated conflict culminated when he wouldn't listen to her (again) and she literally felt powerless and was forced to contact an outside power. Someone with force that the child would listen to. The Police fit that role nicely.

Also everyone here needs to stop with the crap about not knowing her son purchased the game. You aren't raising her child, you don't know what she is dealing with. It is entirely possible that this child purchased both the console and the games. We don't know the full story.

The last thing I have to say is that this really isn't about the game at all and we all know it. So why is it being discussed on this site or any other site? This is none of our business.

I'm not mocking her religious beliefs, it's just every time someone says "I've got the support of my church", they're always referring to the people who think everything is deep-rooted in satanism, or because a game is violent, it's gonna turn our kids into serial killers. I went to Catholic school when I was a kid, and they tried to pull the same crap with me when I played Yu-Gi-Oh!. "Oh they're satanic, you're not allowed to have them, get rid of them." I'm all for having beliefs, but I can't stand that nonsense.

Flipscore, you accuse us of assuming, yet you yourself are assuming the mother had any sensibility in this case. You don't call the COPS of all people if your son is playing video games too long, and you cant control him. Its called bad parenting, and the mother should know better than to use an emergency service to control her kid. I mean, what the hell?

I don't condemn beliefs, but when people say things like that, it typically means they are tying to shift the blame from themselves by exclaiming "God is on MY side, so I'm obviously in the right!" Seriously? If I were that kid, I'd just leave home right now and get away from a mother that'd do that to her own son.

How am I an extremist? You have the evidence in front of you. Sure it's not the WHOLE forum community, I am not an idiot, I can tell the difference. I don't go around saying if an Atheist has an opinion on something it must be wrong because they don't believe in God, not only because it's an ignorant position to take, but because it is intolerant of others and that kind of person has no place in a discussion forum, because if you're going to outright dismiss someones claims over something like that you are certainly not interested in having any meaningful discussion.

This post reminds me of a younger me. Of course I gave up on trying to get any shred of understanding or tolerance out of this mass of antagonistic and ignorant folk quite some time ago. Now I just come here on occasion for some videos, the few good articles, and to look down on the forum community as the giant pile of hypocrites they are.

As a parent, I can only imagine what kind of little shit this kid must be and what he puts his poor mother through. She needs to mom up, and give the damn console away to someone, but if she has this much trouble disciplining her son maybe if she did that the kid would go psycho on her. She's probably afraid of him to some degree to let him walk all over her like that.

Also, from the looks of the story, she's a single mom. This kid is just a brat, too bad the cops couldn't take him away for a bit.

What SHE did is technically against the law, what he did wasn't. 911 isn't made for parents to get help with disciplining their children. And if she didn't approve of the game, how did he get it?

I can't help but feel that you are contributing to this. Yes, anonyminity can lead to stupidity, and stupidity can exist. So can conflicting viewpoints. So can trolling. But coming to a forum just to say "forums are stupid" reminds me of an alcoholic that comes to a fraternity party to complain about the quality of the beer.

I also find it quite hard to make jokes about the entire religious community in one post, I work with that I'm giving. But rest assured I do find racist/sexist/anti-belief humour funny, when not made in an actual serious context, not because I am racist/exist/and anti-belief but because I'm able to appreciate this kind of humour without being offended. And you're right people don't react in the same way, obviously, but I could just as easily have attacked you for trying to label me as some kind of anti christian when that isn't what I am.
