Damn them vidjeo games! It's 'cause of things like vidjeo games that parents might have to git up off ther asses an' do some parentin'! Unacceptable!
/silly writing style
I do wonder if there will ever come a day when parents like these stop for a second and say, "Maybe I'm the problem."

I played that game when it was just becoming popular in high schools. You know who were playing it? The jocks that are just now getting into graduate schools, and the video game junkies. I think I might have spent more hours on that game in my study class than I did doing heroin. Of course, whenever I was caught I would use a stick of dynamite against the 35 teachers running at me with tazers. Please.

why didn't the mother try to help her daughter rather than wait for her to go into a coma and blame games.

I bet it was her druggy friends who pushed her to try heroin and other drugs. It usually is.

Suprise lady, your daughter was likely already a junkie before the game came out!
But seriously, I doubt that this game caused the girl to shoot herself up to the eyeballs with whatever drug she was taking.

Impressionable kids, eh? Not my first choice of words.
I think the parents are more impressionable.
So much media focus goes into the evils of videogames that as soon as someone sees something in a game that they disagree with, they brand it as evil and try to ban it.

Again, it comes down to a lack of awareness on the parents part. If they took the time to find out a little bit about the games that they brought their kids, maybe they would say
"Wait, I'm not going to buy my 10 year old son GTA because I don't agree with its message".
FAIR ENOUGH.
But when parents say "My 10 year old son murdered a hooker because he played GTA", then I have no sympathy for you, because the only way he could have gotten that game is to make someone buy it for him.

Yes, because of course junkies will be spending all their time playing iPhone games while getting high.
Exactily my point.

If you ask a person why they do drugs 1/1,000,000 times you wont hear"I played a game, saw the action of drug abuse and ran round he corner to get a fix."

Stupid ,overprotective ,retared mothers.
Now, hold on, don't call them stupid. It's natural for mothers to be overprotective; it's their instinct. If a mother isn't overprotective, either they are making a conscious decision to back off and fighting their nature, or there's something wrong with them.
Or trust their kids

Maybe if she wasn't a bad parent her daughter wouldn't be a f$$$up. Also if she paid attention to her daughter instead of video games, her daughter wouldn't have any problems.... Duh.. If you are going to pick a fight make sure you have sound reasoning.....
Second. I honestly don't know to put it better than you have.

Wooh, more scapegoating and pigeon-holing!
I am 16 and have never tried drugs, despite owning multiple games that feature drug use, drug abuse, drug dealing, drug production and drug smuggling.

i dont see why games are the butt of the blame... i mean honestly i bet some people would blame pac-man for obesety in children, i dont like how games always get blamed and if you are playing the game you become the bad guy, sure maybe games can be impressionable, and sometimes go too far, but why blame all games in general thats like burning millions of different books because a few books had profanity in it

Out of all the problems in the world. People seem to centre in on free media.

It's weird; I first learned the basics of macroeconomics through playing the original Drug Wars (and later, the TI-83 remake). Supply and demand, inventory cost versus selling price, it really helped me learn the value of a dollar, and the ever-important capitalist guideline of "buy low, sell high." Now I've got money in the stock market, and even after the economy fell, I've been making a profit because of the lessons I learned in Drug Wars.

And I only drink alcohol (and I'm old enough to). No pot/crack addictions here. Maybe Amy got into drugs through other means, then... since you know, kids can totally get their first joint through their iPhone screens...

I guess I'll just chalk this one up to the typical combination of bad parenting + inability to take personal responsibility + easy scape goat = vilification of video games as the cause of society's downfall.
