Mom Outraged by Naughty Word in Countdown

I agree with her being angry about it but how she handled it I do not. She should have either brushed it off, saying its gibberish (or nonsense, whatever the child understands) or explained it to him, as well as why not to use it. Having the father (I assume, I could be wrong but thats not important) remove the child will only make him more curious, which is never a good thing.

I saw this is on a talk show this morning, this kind of thing has been happening on countdown for years but the second it happens on a video game the roof blows off.

It's kind of funny, but it's really bad that it was able to happen in the game, that type of thing shouldn't slip past you if families are going to be playing a game like this. This is clearly the developers fault.

not seeing the issue; if it's in the Oxford dictionary then it's valid to use in countdown, therefore... it is going to be in a countdown game.

Children are going to ask questions about rude words and odd behaviour at some point the trick is to sideline the issue or adequately explain it as inappropriate not make a fuss.

Her inncocent ball of life will eventually be tainted by swear words anyway. He just has a 9 year head start. I don't think ignoring the word will help... if they explain it and explain why it's so bad, he won't ever used it.

When I was 10 I was reading the blurb of South Park DvDs and saw the episode "Cartman's mum is a dirty slut". I thought it was simply a fun insult for a female. Unfortuntaly during a game of marbles with my sister (as you do when 10), when she beat me or did something amazing, I called her a dirty slut, needless to say I was shocked at the reaction, and yet I still didn't understand what it meant intill I was a teenager.

Basically, the best thing the mum can do now is explain what the word means and explain it's very offensive. Otherwise the bright child will remember the word and use it out of context for horrifying results.
