No words man. Just watch the video.

[sub]Actually I probably should say words to avoid the warning.

This is pretty bad, and I'm surprised PETA hasn't shit a brick yet, or anybody really. Just your daily reminder that these are wild animals, and anything can happen with them

Also, don't cut off bears on bicyles[/sub]

That bear is one bad loser.

...

They should make this a new Olympics competition! The winners get eaten by the losers. It would make situations like the last Olympic's badminton competition where 2 teams were kicked out for throwing their games more interesting: Did a team throw the game in order to get an easier slot in the next round or because they were hungry? <_<

I admit, I was laughing pretty hard until they started hitting the bear with sticks. And when I say I was laughing, I meant at the race which was kinda cute actually.

On the one hand, it is quite amazing that we can teach primitive animals to use human-made constructs, namely the bear. On the other hand, it is also quite foolish, because they are just that: primitive, and wild by nature. This shit was bound to happen eventually.

I think I might have boulder sized stones for admitting this, but...

Seeing a bear chase down a monkey on a bicycle, then eat it, is the most amazing thing I've ever seen and I think I can die happy now. Wow, just... wow. This is the kind of thing no one would ever believe unless they saw it with their own eyes. Now I want to see a lion use a gun to shoot a zebra, or a wolf use a tank to take down group of sheep.

So how many licks does it take to reach the centre of a rhesus monkey?

Also, bears riding bikes never looked entertaining to me. It just looked unnatural. I can't help but think how much beating it took for such a feat.

man seriously.
That bear is worse a loser than Luis Suarez
He at least just bit his opponent once, he didn't try to eat Ivanovic

It isn't just cruel to use bears in this way, it is also dangerous. You can never, ever predict when a bear with lash out.
This sort of circus stuff is just pointless and hurts the animals. Sure, animals aren't as important as people, and I do eat meat. But why inflict more suffering on them than is necessary?

Ok let me first say that this is horribly wrong on every level. Humans abusing animals? Check. Humans placing wild animals in situations that they should never be put in simply for our own amusement? Check. Just an all round stupid idea that somebody should have flagged as stupid long before it was put into practice? Check.

Having said all that, god it was funny.

I know I'm a horrible person, I think it's just the absurd nature of the situation that cracks me up.
Why on earth would you put a monkey and a bear on bikes and have them race? I'm still laughing as I write this.

You can take the animal out of the wild, but never will you take the wild out of the animal. This is disgusting, I just got back from a good day at work and I'm all mad at the world now >_<

I have to agree: That is the best way to wake up in my opinion. That was absolutely amazing!

At least the other monkey survived. It would've been worse if it were two monkeys he ate. I thought the race was pretty cool though, until the bear rammed into the monkey's bike and then proceeded to eat the monkey. Something about bears eating monkeys seems wrong and saddening.

Reading the thread title I thought it was about a fable'ish thing, like The Scorpion and the Frog [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Scorpion_and_the_Frog].

But no...

I'm with Nokturos on this one, the responses on this thread are shocking. Usually the Escapist user-base is fairly balanced and mature when horrible news stories like this come out. I don't understand how it's funny to see animals subjected to this kind of treatment... I see even less humour in those animals getting hurt/dying thanks to that human mistreatment.
How is training an animal to perform a trick cruel?

People do it with dogs all the time.

Sure, if you're using nasty training methods then that's bad, but we have no evidence of that here.

It wasn't people who hurt that monkey. It was the bear doing what bears have been doing for thousands of years.

Exactly.
And that's the same reason I'm sick of people getting all morally righteous about cock/dog fighting rings.
These animals want to fight and kill each other they've done it for thousands of years. Just because a few bad guys use inhumane training methods doesn't mean the sport as a whole should be demonised.

The only reason the fighting WORKS is because of inhumane training methods. If you took those away the "sport" wouldn't be there because it's built on it.

I'm fine with teaching them how to ride bicycles, that the bear ate the monkey is just a fact of nature and shit happening.
However dog fighting etc, is a result of torturing the animals to make them more aggressive. Don't get on my side of the fence, I don't want you here.
