So, now that i am done laughing, let's add my 2 cents worth.

Who didn't see this coming. News flash folks, bears like to eat meat. In this case a monkey.
Frankly, i'm surprised the bear hasn't gone after his trainers yet.

Captcha: Cut the mustard.
Don;t do that Captcha, monkey's taste great with a bit of mustard

I don't really see the funny part in animal cruelty. If you laughed at this, you're basically a ****.
Arguably, since non-human animals aren't people there's no more reason to feel empathy towards them than say a phone or a laptop that gets accidentally broken.
Personally I feel empathy towards anything that can feel pain and displeasure. I mean, what's the point of empathy otherwise?
Well, the point of empathy is help societies function by allowing us humans to understand each other and work towards a common good. It helps resolve the dilemma where for each individual, taking more than they give to a society is beneficial but if everyone cheats, everyone loses out more. Unless a particular animal remaining unharmed benefits our society, such as a dog used for hunting or companionship, there is no benefit to us to feel empathy for a non-human animal.
Yeah... I don't feel empathy for my own benefit, sorry.
Maybe not a direct material benefit, but you get a good feeling out of empathising and considering yourself a good person yes? That is your benefit, not to mention that acting empathetically (within reason) helps your social relations with others and keeps society stable, both of which you benefit from again ;-)
You misunderstand. I certainly do benefit from feeling empathy - that's just not why I feel empathy.
