I actually accidentally found that 'shortcut' shortly after I had drained the water, and made my way to the fog-gate that led to the Four Kings by pure chance because I didn't know which way I was supposed to go. I knew I wasn't ready to fight them, but figured "Hey, I was supposed to drop down there so this gate couldn't possibly lead to the boss already." How wrong I was...jebara said:Just a little tip for anyone fighting the Four Kings, there is a shortcut at the place where you encounter the first ghosts in the area, don't go up the stairs, if you drained the water there will be a cliff that is a short fall that lets you avoid most of the journey to the boss.In Search of Username said:The Four Kings in Dark Souls. They're in the middle of an area they are disproportionately tough for (they're probably the toughest enemies in the game despite appearing halfway through); there's no bonfire (checkpoint) nearby so you have to fight through a mass of enemies to get to them each time you fail; they all spawn separately but if you don't kill the first one fast enough the second will just spawn in while he's still there and you'll be gang-raped; the timing on all their moves is really annoying when trying to get the hang of dodging them, and they have this one AoE move that's virtually impossible to get away from in time.
Seriously, that fight took me so fucking long. But, as usual with Dark Souls, it was really damn satisfying when I was done with it.
OT: As far as time-consuming goes, I'd have to say probably Yiazmat from Final Fantasy XII if you're not prepared for him. Quick kills are generally considered to be after an hour.
He's actually the one optional monster that I don't remember if I killed or not, I don't believe I ever did. Which is one of the reasons I've been replaying it recently, because I'm crazy.
