Fighting Nyx at the end of Persona 3 was definitely time-consuming. The difficulty spike was HUGE compared to all the easy mandatory bosses I fought before it. Nyx had over 12 forms. Each one had low HP for a boss, but I did very little damage at a time since I was constantly healing and rebuffing my party (not sure how necessary it was). Nyx went through some forms that nearly killed off my party. When that happened I had to throw caution to the wind and focus entirely on offense, hoping that his next form would give me the chance to heal up.

His final form had tons of HP and naturally was the toughest of his forms. When I finally won, I had fought for over 4 hours.
Yeah that is exactly why I only attempted him 3 times and never did actually beat him. I always said I'd go back a try again, but every time I think I might want to do that I remember how excruciatingly long that fight was and go and do something else instead.

To be honest, I think the one, true, factual answer to this thread is Yiazmat from Final Fantasy XII.
The boss takes 4 hours to kill, and has instant death attacks.

I challenge you to name a more tedious boss. I dare you.

The end boss of FF XIII. I don't remember his name. Orphan? Whatever. Took me forever and a day to kill that bastard. So bored the whole time and repeatedly frustrated with his "You will now die in X amount of time" attack. That entire fight was bullshit.
I actually used Hope (because the dumbass would never heal my party when he needed to) as the party leader and put a deathproof accessory on him to avoid that. After that it took about 1/2 an hour if even that to fight him but I agree it was a boring fight.

Time consuming... surely either Yiazmat (FF XII) or Absolute Virtue (FF XI) take the cake?

Oh wait, MMORPGs don't count. Scrap the Virtue Man then.

I'd say The Bonus Boss in FF XII Yiazmat.
50 million HP and a Dmg cap of 7k per hit halfway through.
I died after I had it down to about 20 mil and decided to waste my time with something else.
yeah, it took me 6 hrs to beat it (i probably wasn't maxed out or anything). i actually died 1 hr in the first time too, then did the 6 hr second try.

Hero/Shadow Mitsuo in Persona 4

It's one of those cases were the boss isn't too bad if you know what you are doing. But considering a first time player wouldn't necesarily fuse Black Frost, it becomes a large pain in the ass, as happened to me. Worse, I had only 1 ingame day left to beat him, and a low social link with the fox.
Translation; I was pretty fucked.
Even if you know what you are doing, it'll still take quite some time to put this guy down. And his armor just keeps growing back.

Shadow Teddie gets a honorable mention for being a damage sponge, but not difficult at all.

Nobody's mentioned the Enderdragon from Minecraft yet? That thing's a pain in the right arse to take down without mods or creative mode.

The King of Night in Ninety Nine Nights.

Virtually impossible unless you picked up one randomly dropped loot item on the final level that enables you to not lose energy whilst doing specials, as there's only one attack that's particularly effective against him. One problem; where it's random, people can literally try 100 times in a row and still not get the drop.
I platinumed that game bit tht was ages ago. Is that the guy you unlock after beating the game with everyone and I think it forces you to use Inphyy or you can only fight him with her? If it is then there's a move where you fly across the screen that you can spam. That's all I did and won on my second try.
Yes, Inphyy-only and that's the move (AAY combo, forget the name) - obviously you picked up the Deadly Armband otherwise there's no way in hell you'd beat it on your second go as you run out of energy in two uses of it with a full bar IIRC, though it might well have even been only one.

Platinum, by the way. What on earth is that?

:)
Oops I meant I got all achievements! Been on ps3 lately :p. The weird thing is that I was bad at the game, I literally cheaped out every boss! Except when I was the goblin because he is so amazing against bosses.

Any chance you played the second game? I haven't and was wondering if it was good.

I am going to go a different direction here and say the Albert Wesker fight from Resident Evil 5. That boss fight was dragged out for way too long in more and more ridiculous environments. The boss fight on the lower difficulties was easy to the point of insulting, and then you hit a brick wall on Professional difficulty, especially if you are playing with a bot partner and no cheats. If I had to summarize how idiotic the fight got, there is a moment where you are literally punching a rock inside a volcano during the fight. Terrible boss fight to cap off a mediocre at best game.

Cuchulainn, the Impure from FF tactics always hate that boss fight because of the fact that all this boss does is use the spell nightmare (which hit you with the status effects sleep and doom)and the occasional physical attack (which is pretty strong and can kill a unit in a hit or two),now that i think of it there are plenty of annoying bosses in ff tactics lol

I can't remember what they're called, but in Golden Sun: Dark Dawn there is two:

- An optional boss that if you defeat him he'll become a summon. Thing is though, he summons a lot of these balls that will consume your summons, curse you, heal him, attack you, protect him, and the like. I tried to beat him three times I think, all of which took over an hour. Gave up after that.
- The final boss (at least I think it's the final boss). It's the guy that's morphed from the three guys you were just battling that were already a ***** to fight. And due to the fact that he/it occurs right after a hard ass fight, you can't go to resupply any consumables you used, which you did, and nor can you go off to level up or do anything else. He does shit loads of damage to multiple people in your party, and it has obscene amounts of HP. I spent over an hour and a half on him and got nowhere, so I quit.
First; Wow, someone else who's played a golden sun game. Never thought I'd see that in my lifetime! Second; if you thought Star Magician and Chaos Chimera were bad, wait until you meet Dullahan and Doom Dragon from Golden Sun: The lost Age.
Don't you ever mention the name of that boss again.I took me months to finally be able to beat him. I also found doom dragon much easier than fusion dragon. I mean you have to fight that thing right after saturaus and menardi without even healing.

Seymore Flux, Sinspawn Gui, Evrae and one more I can't quite remember from Final Fantasy X.

Although there's one boss that almost made me snap my controller.
...Bed of Chaos from Dark Souls.
So. Fucking. Cheap.

Just...ugh. UGH.
I never got this. What's the deal with Bed of Chaos? It's the only boss where you don't lose your progress when you die. I didn't even care about running through the lava a few times to really get it done. It wasn't that tough once you knew where you could and could not run. If you're going to mention Dark Souls, go for the obvious one: Smough & Ornstein.

It took me a literal fucking week. When I finally got it I couldn't believe it. Did them again with another character a few weeks later and then it took me two tries. Yeah..

I actually managed to beat him, the most likely culprit was probably the system I was playing it on because it was pretty old and a lot of my button pressing didn't respond quickly enough even with a new controller
I don't believe you. I think you were too busy baking delicious baked goods to focus on the fight. Snack cakes are wonderful, but sometimes we must put aside our brownies and fight for the greater good, or Cloud's car keys. The task accomplished, we can then resume our tasty campaign to bake all the cookies in the world.

Kingdom Hearts has a few bosses like this (I'm going to agree with a previous poster and say that Demyx and Xaldin can fuck right off), but I've got one better in terms of being annoying and time-consuming.

In Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days, there's an optional boss in one of the last missions, basically the hardest boss in the game... sort of. See, he's just a pallet-swap of the normal dragon-type enemies, but with CRAZY high stats, RIDICULOUSLY high HP, and a freaking annoying ability: Every single attack of his causes a random status ailment. EVERY attack he has.

What this boils down to is this: You have to PERFECTLY memorize all of his attack patterns, because if he hits you with a SINGLE one, it could cause an entirely debilitating status ailment, that'll basically be an automatic death sentence if you're unlucky. His hit points are so high, that it just drags and drags and drags the fight out, for no particular reason at all.

It's really more of an endurance match than anything else. Seeing how long you can continuously fight the same annoying enemy without making a SINGLE mistake. He's not really hard in that respect, his attacks aren't particularly difficult to avoid, it's just that after fighting him for SO long, you're bound to make a mistake sooner or later.

So, while there are TOUGHER enemies in the Kingdom Hearts games, this guy wins in terms of being both annoying AND time-consuming.

This. She wasn't even that hard. It was super easy to avoid her attacks but she just had like a thousand times more health than any normal enemy.

The damned demi-fiend(from nocturne) bonus boss in Shin Megami Tensai Digital Devil Saga 1 it gives the random encounter music because to him that is just what you are(If you do anything wrong 9999 damage gets slammed straight to your whole party, as a midlevel attack from nocturne) and to win you pretty much have to rely on luck of having one of member of your team put to sleep while having a certain skill that makes all skills miss when your are asleep.

One game that annoyed me with the boss fights was FFXIII. If you took too long on a boss, they'd just throw a doom timer on you to end it. It gets really annoying when you try to play with a defensive/counter team set-up as the main strategy there is to whittle away the boss's HP.
