Radiohead - Street Spirit (Fade Out) (Most Radiohead songs are depressing, I find this one more so.)
Jeff Buckley - Hallelujah
And even though the message of it isn't depressing, Wires by Athlete is pretty depressing to me.

Oh, and Bobby McFerrin - Don't worry, be happy
EDIT:
Bryan Adams - Sound The Bugle. Can't believe I forgot that one.

I personally see "Hurt" as a beutiful song.

I would have to go whit VNV NATION - BELOVED, or stuff by VNV NATION in general. They are like a depressing techno band, Good Shit.

Awesome song, but it revels in the destruction too much to be depressing. If the thread was called "Most Ironically Hopeful Song" this would win hands down.

My choices would be:

Hurt was already posted, though you should at least <url=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TF4JaSBu1cI>credit the original band with it, not the cover artist.

Thats my pick. I broke down earlier today when that played, though thats more for personal reasons.
That's odd, I find Everybody Hurts to be uplifting. But then again you stated personal reasons, and I don't blame you, it is a bit melancholy. Some songs set me off, like Chasing Cars by Snow Patrol (also personal reasons).

And even though both versions of Hurt are depressing, I think that Johnny Cash's version is more so. Just my opinion, though.

Music is an entirely subjective medium, so what one might find 'depressing', another might not. That being said, here are some songs I find a little downbeat:

'Where's the Reset Button' by 'Sun Devoured Earth'
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9Hd4VlKkaEs

'Air' by 'Liam'
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U9rI3a73AMc

'Spectral Bride' by 'Giles Corey'
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EAhQzXpBTfA

'Being a Teenager and the Awkwardness of Backseat Sex' by 'Planning for Burial'
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CcdmYpF55l0

'Everyone has Died Post-haste' by 'Airs'
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oMoJrPTtfzs

Finally, this song isn't so much depressing as it is, distant? I feel I should add it though as it might make this thread a little less overwhelming.

'Somehow' by 'Stillgazer'

Thanks guys, enjoy!

Edit: I only put the links up, as I didn't want to take up too much space with video.

What? A "Depressing song" thread and the most depressing song ever written has yet to be mentioned?

Is it even possible to think of something that's not depressing when this music is on?

Definitely this one, written by Bob Dylan and performed by The Band.

Richard Manuel is one of my favorite singers.
You can hear the pain in his voice.
It's a shame he eventually ended up killing himself. D:

Just about anything by Elliot Smith.

Great musician, and all but sometimes you just need to stop listening to him for fear of becoming a downer for no real reason.

The all time saddest song might be Hurt, as performed by Johnny Cash, especially if accompanied by the video

However, these also depress me, in a good way

Wicked Game by Chris Isaak
Almost anything by Radiohead, but especially There, There and Green Plastic Trees
That fucking song Madworld song by Gary Jules.
How Soon Is Now by The Smiths

Suffer Little Children, by The Smiths. Song about the Moors murderers (two people from manchester who took a bunch of kids out to the moors and killed and buried them). Beautiful song, but depressing lyrics.

Way Down the Line by The Offspring is pretty depressing, but I find it oddly inspiring for some reason.

Sword of Damocles by Lou Reed. If you've ever known anyone who's died of cancer, a lot of the lyrics will feel familiar.

the song 'Daisy' by Brand New makes me incredibly down, I really relate to it so I guess it's unavoidable.

it's an incredible song and I love it but if I'm in a good mood I simply don't listen to it to avoid being brought down.

[edit] also see 'When The Footsteps Die Out Forever' and 'The Band Played Waltzing Matilda'
