Borderlands.
Max level.
2 modded weapons and a modded shield I got from some random guy. (Be aware I play on PS3.)
Cried for an hour.

I recently just lost my save file in Final Fantasy 3. I want to beat it but I can't bring myself to play the countless hours again just to be back to where I was.

My GC memory card got corrupted a few years back. My usually unshakeable brother was a crying mess.
The most devastating loss was my Tales of Symphonia files. I'd started new files by loading up completed games so at that point I'd gone through it 6 times on the one 'file'. My monster book was almost complete, I'd hunted every last treasure chest and everyone had almost every single title.
Needless to say I haven't touched the game since, I'm still hurting.

lost my entire 1056 gamecube memory card, all my RE games, melee, harvest moon, and so much more. I was exceptionally sad that day. :(

I was playing Assassin's Creed (1) a little while after it came out, a friend had sold it to me for 10 bucks, and I was playing it for completion. I had gotten almost all the flags in all the cities, and I think I was in the 3rd set of assassinations (numbers 7-9) when it happened. It has that autosave feature, you know? Well, it froze mid autosave, so I was like oh that kinda sucks, I rebooted and went back to load it back up again, and it said "save file corrupted". Then it really sucked.

Well I lost some important saves on Fallout. I got stuck playing in a glitch where I lost a follower (for good). Also when I changed my hard drive I lost one of Halo 3's map packs, but it was fine thanks to ODST copy and paste.

I had just unlocked Sai Fong with Bayonetta and I accidentally overwrote my save file with some Jeanne data.

The kicker? The "are you sure you want to overwrite" prompt didn't come up! D:

For my Gamecube i was stupid enough to buy a 3rd party memory card, it wiped taking away 90% progress on Metroid Prime and 75% or so of Skies of Arcadia Legends. I was so pissed off i couldnt start those games over so i never got to finish them (maybe that makes me a wuss or something but after i put in many many hours only to see them wiped away those games lost a lot of their shine in my eyes).

Not exactly devastating but enough to seriously piss me off.

Morrowind. I had completed virtually all of the faction quests and side quests and was just about to beat go climb the mountain and fight the final bosses when the computer kind of died and needed to be completely rebooted. Pissed me off something fierce for a bit. But Morrowind is one of my favorite games of all time so after I played something else for a bit I just got back into it, did it all again and beat it.

My hard drive died with all my saves (me/me2 and a lot of other stuff that i didn't really care about), and that hard drive also had FO3 and oblivion modded beyond recognition, both games took up 60GB's of hdd space because of added content, it took me forever to make all that junk work together.

My house was robbed several years ago now and they stole my GameCube, all my games... and the memory card in the GameCube. The memory card had my save file for SSX Tricky, wherein I'd gotten Gold medals on every Race and Showoff event with every character and unlocked all their boards. That, along with the loss of my save files for Star Fox Adventures and The Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker, both of which I'd almost finished and never have to this day, was utterly devastating.

My profile got corrupted somehow and I had to recover it but first I had to delete the old profile and I accidentally pressed "delete profile and items" instead of just "delete profile." There goes a good chunk of my saves, luckily my online data remained but everything else disappeared.

Losing my Just Cause 2 save. I'm a completest, and spent ages doing as much as I could in that game. There's just too much sameyness there, so it quickly becomes a grind.

Don't hate because I play it.

I deleted my Animal Crossing Wild World file on purpose. Because I wanted to play from the beginning again.

I had all the rooms, all debts paid off, had fully themed/accessorized rooms (Full Snowman Set even), and had about 180,000 HRA Points. Only after a few hours from deleting my file/town, did I realize how horrible a mistake I just made. Only 80 more hours to go to get half of the shit I've gone through already done again. ;-;

Losing my 99:59:59+ hour save in Final Fantasy VII. I had a whole gang of master materia for all my party members built up at that point, and two knights of the round, working on the third.

I was less than a half hour into playing Diablo for the first time, and it formats my memory card on the first save.

I was so mad. So very, very mad.

I've had a few sore ones over the years. The easiest was probably my Timesplitters 2 save being corrupted. Countless hours sank, story done on every difficulty, 5 characters from a complete roster. Sounds like one of the worst but silver lining: I spent the entire weekend blitzing it and ended up better off with only 2 characters to go!

Worst was probably Burnout Paradise. 90 something percent complete with just a couple cars to go and boom, YLOD, no backup, and once I got it fixed corrupted save... That hurt.

Family wise: My little cousin erased my pokemon red save. I wasn't major way in but my mate had helped me get past a bit I was stuck on and I'd fired up to 6/7 badges and a lv60 odd Charizard. Had a serious fall out with him for it and never touched another pokemon game until white.

I've only had one. It was a GBA game when I was a kid, it was really hard and I'd worked so hard on it. I lent it to a friend and without even realising how evil it was, he erased my entire game! He didn't even apologize...

Honestly, I know this is a gaming website and everything but the times that I've lost hours and hours of work far outweight the times when I lost game data. At least it's fun to replay a game... :p

Though I do have a bit of a story. I seem to have a Final Fantasy related curse. I have not completed any final fantasy game apart from 13 (I know... at least it was pretty!). Every single final fantasy that I've ever played has had it's save file corrupted or deleted somehow about mid way through the game apart from final fantasy 7; which ended up with both a corrupted file and a mysteriously cracked disk.
