Jackelope. It's rock... but with an electric mandolin. Oh, and the First Line. that's just awesome classic/folk rock.

Lots of bands are obscure. Most bands are obscure even! I'll name a couple of things both obscure and eccentric.

Nuclear Power Pants are noise rock, and they hailed from White Plains NY. The lead singer consisted of two guys in a huge suit (they were supposed to be a nuclear mutant) while the rest of the band wore big neon green angular dinosaur heads, one guitarist was meant purely to make feedback with his amp.

FCFT (Fur Cups For Teeth) I played with in NYC, they're three girls and a space-filler drummer. The girls are constantly switching off instruments, and play some really great power-pop. Their on-stage 'characters' are intentionally very valley girly. They're also adorable, and every show they play has a theme. The one I've played with them was "blown up on the 4th of July", they'll frequently include normally-non-musical things into their show and use them musically, such as vacuum cleaners.

Oh, forgot my bands...

Abolishment of Hate (Or Jeff Lewis.)
Exhale
Holy Blood
Horde
Horsemen of the Apocalypse
Frost Like Ashes
Impending Doom
Insect Warfare
Invisible Image
Pantokrator
Sacrificium
Slechtvalk
Tortured Conscience

If you're into Grindcore, Death or Black Metal you may have heard of a few.
Insect Warfare kicks so much ass
They were ok, but it sucks that they broke up.

Check out Exhale or Nasum, they're both much better.
Nasum is from my hometown! :D

To bad about their singer getting killed in the Tsunami though :(
Seriously? Swedes rule.

This is far from 'the most obscure band', because at some point bands are obscure for a reason. But they're pretty obscure, I'd wager that most of you haven't heard them, and if you like Buzzcocks style power pop punk mixed with glam and elvis costello, check out Steve E. Nix and The Cute Lepers.

Never heard it (unless it was played in a club without me knowing who it was), but most certainly have heard of it, I like Darkwave.

I have Psyclon Nine's album "Inri" never heard of the other band.

QUEENS OF THE STONE AGE Best band. EVER.
YEAH! I love the fact they don't take themselves too seriously. There's even a song called 'I think I lost my headache' whose sole purpose is to induce headaches!

Yeah. Most of their songs aren't really heavy subjects, but sometimes they can have really dark and sexual meanings. Man, I love QotSA.

One of my friends in high school got me into 1905. Very political, hardcore/punk band.

Also one of my all time favorites is Shai Hulud (yeah, like the sandworms from Dune).

Am I the only one curious on how you all know about bands that 'nobody' has ever heard of?

I'd think by definition these bands would never be found because the moment they are found them somebody has heard of them.

I'm sure your taking it too literally. Its just a thread about obscure bands who have yet to be discovered by mainstream.

I go to a few blogs, and I look at my last.fm recommendations.
