Indeed although the alucard shield with the shield rod is a close second, especially if you have high magic. 255 damage every 1/10 of a second that heals you.

I've always said that in Team Fortress 2 the only rocket launcher that takes any skill in the Direct Hit. All the others, especially the Black box, seem to be overpowered.

Aside from the Blaster Launcher in X-COM, when it comes to the tactical game genere there has to be a mention for a couple from Silent Storm:

Scoped & Silenced Kar98K. Doesn't sound so bad, but due to limitations within the game's AI they won't be able to react if they can't see the enemy. This isn't too much of a problem with the silenced SMGs & pistols, but with this rifle you can waste the entire enemy force without them ever firing a shot or even moving toward your commandos.

X-COM laser rifle - I don't recall its ingame name, but it was a secret weapon included in a rare random encounter. Its one of the most accurate weapons in the game, has burst fire, packs a 50 round "magazine" (for comparison the only other hand held laser weapons in the game have to be reloaded every time they're fired and even the Panzerklien mounted models only carry 16 shots and have significantly worse accuracy). It easily one shots most targets, slices straight through Panzerklien armour and generally delievers a beat down to anything with absurd ease.

I'd also suggest the kick from Dark Messiah of Might & Magic, but thats only because of the silly amount of deep pits, spikes, precariously placed barrels, etc, allowing a swift dispatch of even the toughest mooks.

No wonder they nerfed it in Halo two. Could you imagine someone dual wielding those monsters?
Indeed, but in the Halo ilk, probably the one on reach that's a beacon placer, calling down an air strike. No wonder it's not on multiplayer...

Timing is a key factor, though. Any launcher will need frequent reloading and the rockets are trivial for a Scout to avoid, meaning that he will ruin a Soldier when he gets in close with the scattergun. Snipers can also see the rockets coming a mile away, and a protected Heavy can eat a few rockets, no problem.

If you play Medic, Demoman, or Pyro (as I do) you will have problems when a rocket launcher is pointed at you.

The pistol in DX: Human Revolution. It has an upgrade that allows it to essentially ignore armor, making more powerful than the assault rifle, shotgun, or even the sniper rifle.
Don't forget that you couldn't suppress the sniper rifle and you could hit a guy from a mile away one you attached the laser sight on the pistol.

Pretty much this. Describing the Crissaegrim hardly does the weapon justice, so I will instead present video evidence.

Here is a boss fight using conventional weapons. The player is not super-leveled or using anything out of the ordinary for this fight:
(Embedding time codes on this website doesn't work, so skip ahead to about 7:00)

Now, Observe the ease with which the Crissaegrim dispatches of all the bosses in the game. Again, the player here is not super-leveled or using any special weapons in these fights except for the Crissaegrim.

Few games have weapons like this that completely and utterly trivialize every single encounter. What puts the Crissaegrim in a special class, is that it empowers the player to do the trivializing, instead of something that is passive or scripted (such as a flat stat boost or a summon spell.)
Dare I ask where you find that wonderful Weapon?

In a COD game specificly? The Black ops version of the FAMAS. Noob weapon of choice.

In any game, the hammer of dawn from GW3.
lol i actually find the hammer of dawn kinda funny.

imagine it from the locust side of things.

"gotta kill that human over there! wait, what's that in the sky..DEAR GOD! LSKJSDF*runs for life*"

edit:

to add in my own gun, i can't remember the name, but at the end of crackdown the stupid asian gang had all their rooftop guys equipped with heat seaking rocket launchers, so unless you were right next to the corner of a huge wall that rocket was about to chase your ass down no matter what, and it had a nerf football like sound so you could hear the damn thing screaming at you in terror =\

Gravity Gun, BFG, and Jedi Academy Long range Rifle....

The first is good for close encounters, is able to create cover (like a barrel or something), and be used has a projectile (throw a speeding wheel at a enemy).

The second one can basicly kill ANY kind of organic creature, with destructive results...

The third one has far too many bullets, no recoil and destroys the enemy... like vaporize it!!!

Fallout 3 - Lincoln's Repeater -- at the point you can get it, you be getting one kill per bullet for a very long time.

Someone mentioned it before, but the Halo 1 pistol was an exceptionally good weapon - accurate, pretty good fire rate, 2x scope and high damage if you could hit unshielded targets in the head with it.

In the single player campaign it was so useful you pretty much had pistol+[other weapon for situation] whenever possible. The ability to take out Hunters with a single shot was also a godsend on Legendary. No need to faff about with the rocket launcher, just run up to them and dodge then shoot in the back.

For a blast from the past, Thunderfury, Blessed Blade of the Windseeker (http://www.wowhead.com/item=19019) was extremely OP back in vanilla WoW. It made tanking extremely easy due to the proc on it generating enormous threat (and especially when tanking multiple targets back before AoE tanking abilities were not really all that strong). Sure it was a legendary item and hard to get, but it was just insanely good.

I see that the Crissaegrim from CV: SotN has already been covered (quite well, no less).... but it certainly took long enough.

One alone is over-powered enough that it trivializes the entire game (which is fairly easy to begin with), the fact you can acquire two and dual-wield them (go-go-gadget button-mashing!) makes it even more ludicrous.

Now here's the real kicker, which the videos linked earlier didn't show:

The Ring of Varda
Flavour text: "One ring to rule them all!"

Sounds like it was ripped out of LotR, yes? Interestingly, "Varda" and "Crissagrim" (along with some other stuff in SotN) are actually from The Simarillion (a compilation of Tolkien's writings released post-humously, where many of the stories which LotR seem like a schoolyard tussle) Like the Crissaegrim, the Ring of Varda is a random drop (albeit one which requires you to finish the game before it will drop). You can acquire more than one, and it each will add fourty damage per swing. Combined with the Crissaegrim dishing out four swings per button press, and the fact you can button-mash two of the at once? And don't forget that the Crissaegrim has a respectable damage output (+36, I think)... if it were a normal weapon.

Yeah, "overpowered" is an understatement of the highest degree.

The only thing more powerful would be a weapon which killed everything on-screen at once (which is normally a console command). Even "nukes" in shooters have limited ammo (and might kill the player who fired it, should they be caught in the blast. There are literally no drawbacks to the Crissaegrim, making it the most powerful "legit" weapon in any game... well, that I've seen.

Too many to count...just far, FAR too many to count.
For shooters, few weapons compare to the mighty Sniper Rifle of UT 99'.

Pros:
-Hitscan (instant hit), extremely long range
-Wonky hit detection to the upper torso for most models made virtually any hit a lethal headshot.
-50 shots max. No reload
-Surprisingly quick firing rate

And this wasn't even some modder's grief-gun; this was a stock weapon.
The future incarnation (Lightning Gun) was so badly received that they reintroduced the solid Sniper Rifle back in UT2004. But hey, at least it was fair.

The Black Sword, in Ultima 7: The Black Gate/Forge of Virtue.

It kills everything instantly. Except the last boss.

infinite ammo and one hit kills makes any weapon uberly overpowered
