One of the most original games I've played in recent years is Farenheit.
Yes, the story gets quite silly, and the ending leaves much to be desired, but the fast-paced decision making and gripping narrative had me hooked all the way trough.
It was fast paced, yet deep and immersive, and even though it left me facepalming myself silly during the third act, I still had to finish it.
Honourable mentions go to Portal, and to some extent Mirrors Edge - for turning the standard FPS on its head and trying something new (IE: removing the "S" part of First Person Shooter)
