Most pointlessly expensive thing you've bought recently?

Having a discussion with some people today, the topic turned to ludicrous purchases we've made in our lives, and I realised that everybody (or at least the people I was speaking to) seem to spend a stupid amount of money on weird, stupid shit quite regularly.

So I thought I'd pose the question on here. What is the most recent case of you blowing a significant sum of money on something that anybody who looked at it would realise was utterly stupid?

Sure I could of spent my money or more useful things like food or clothing, but I wouldn't consider anything I bought pointless nor expensive. At worst I'm going to spend around $20 on DLC coming up.

At Christmas, I decided to get my younger brother a Nerf gun for £8 just because I saw it in the shop and we both really like the 'Arms Race' episode of LoadingReadyRun. Just as I scanned it at the self-checkout I just realised it was a really stupid idea but I did it anyway. Although to be fair, the serious present I got him was only £4, so I though I might make it up a bit.

Well, I usually just buy things I really need(like tons and tons of games, new computers, game consoles etc etc), but one time sticks out a bit;
It was 2007/2008 and I was playing bass guitar in a death metal band. We were about to record our second demo and do lots of gigs, including a few contests, so I decided it was time to purchase a real bass guitar.
Off to the store I go. I find a bass guitar that looks awesome and buy it for 6500 SEK(about 600£ or something). One week later the band splits up and I have hardly ever touched the bass guitar again.

OT: I bought a waistcoat a while ago for 14 euro. That wasn't overly expensive, especially if you consider that it had been marked down from 44euro. And it's the epitome of snazz.

Also, a packet of smokes. They're pretty expensive for carcinogens. Well, the carcinogens you can buy legally, anyway.

I'll order a new iPad on the 11th, that counts, especially since I already have the 4th gen iPod and the only difference is screen size. All I'll use it for is a VNC computer controller, other wise known as a shitty tablet with a screen but without the awesome pressure sensitive Pen.

Mark my words, if the iPad 3, or its competition, release a tablet with the stylus functionality of a Wacom tablet every graphic designer on the planet would buy one.
