Most pointlessly expensive thing you've bought recently?

Having a discussion with some people today, the topic turned to ludicrous purchases we've made in our lives, and I realised that everybody (or at least the people I was speaking to) seem to spend a stupid amount of money on weird, stupid shit quite regularly.

So I thought I'd pose the question on here. What is the most recent case of you blowing a significant sum of money on something that anybody who looked at it would realise was utterly stupid?

My answer is this:

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Harry-Potter-Movie-Prop-Turner/dp/B000795NTM/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1299269053&sr=8-2

Spent £55 on a replica of Hermione's "time-turned" thing from the 3rd Harry Potter movie. to be fair, I did buy it FOR somebody else, so it's not totally retarded. still...£55...

Never.

I try to avoid buying anything just for aesthetics.

I did buy DLC for a game I didn't own, though. I bought the game the next day, but still.

Few months ago I made the mistake of forking over 180 dollars on fable 3, limited eddition, limited edition guide book, and a 60 dollar limited edition controller.

Yes I did fall for super fanboy retardation, thank you for asking.

I'm going to go buy a big-ass Nerf gun tomorrow for a giant Humans vs Zombies game that'll only last 4 days. Then I'll put it up for 6 months and have no need for it. Fun times.

Nothing really.

Sure I could of spent my money or more useful things like food or clothing, but I wouldn't consider anything I bought pointless nor expensive. At worst I'm going to spend around $20 on DLC coming up.

At Christmas, I decided to get my younger brother a Nerf gun for £8 just because I saw it in the shop and we both really like the 'Arms Race' episode of LoadingReadyRun. Just as I scanned it at the self-checkout I just realised it was a really stupid idea but I did it anyway. Although to be fair, the serious present I got him was only £4, so I though I might make it up a bit.

Well, I usually just buy things I really need(like tons and tons of games, new computers, game consoles etc etc), but one time sticks out a bit;
It was 2007/2008 and I was playing bass guitar in a death metal band. We were about to record our second demo and do lots of gigs, including a few contests, so I decided it was time to purchase a real bass guitar.
Off to the store I go. I find a bass guitar that looks awesome and buy it for 6500 SEK(about 600£ or something). One week later the band splits up and I have hardly ever touched the bass guitar again.

CoD: Black Ops. I mean really, I wanted to claw my eyes out for throwing away 60 euros after 1 week of playing. went back to MW2...

Disclaimer: I was just answering to the thread, no need to try to prove me wrong about the game (coz I know that someone, somewhere takes my statement personally)

Can't think of anything now, I have been good with spending this year so far. A game I guess? Can't even say that, the games I have bought have been good investments.

I believe that object was hilariously derided in some Cracked article or other.

OT: I bought a waistcoat a while ago for 14 euro. That wasn't overly expensive, especially if you consider that it had been marked down from 44euro. And it's the epitome of snazz.

Also, a packet of smokes. They're pretty expensive for carcinogens. Well, the carcinogens you can buy legally, anyway.

Geez my friend is the epitomy of pointless expensive purchases

After playing the new Ipod, selling it to his mum after a week and then buying the new Iphone.

He is now planning to buy:

A new TV
A Mac
The new Ipad on launch day
2 new desks
and other random bullshit including every DVD in HMV

Ball jointed dolls. If you're not into the hobby, you won't believe how expensive they are. If you are, you understand why.

I'll order a new iPad on the 11th, that counts, especially since I already have the 4th gen iPod and the only difference is screen size. All I'll use it for is a VNC computer controller, other wise known as a shitty tablet with a screen but without the awesome pressure sensitive Pen.

Mark my words, if the iPad 3, or its competition, release a tablet with the stylus functionality of a Wacom tablet every graphic designer on the planet would buy one.

A friend and I really got into Magic the Gathering a few months back and I sent way too much money on boosters and deckbuilding and now we hardly ever play. Although I do have a pretty awesome white deck and a brutal green deck.

Two $60 GPU coolers that aren't as good as stock. They're WAYYYY quieter tho so I keep 'em. But I did lose some top end overclocking potential.
