I love how people call Superman bland and point to that complete cypher that is Dr. Manhattan as superior.

And I might as well point out the Saint of Killers from the horrible (and don't kid yourself, Garth Ennis's work is awful) Preacher comics.

Iron Man.

Oh, you said Most powerful Superhero? Not Superhero you'd go gay for?

Well that it would have to be Captain Scarlet. The man can't die.

A lot of people don't like superman because they think he's too powerful and therefore you can't have a good story with him. Grant Morrison's All Star Superman is the definitive superman story because it understands that superman's powers are not a hinderance; they're a help. Superman can go anywhere. Do anything. Play fetch with Krypto in space, keep a pet star eater, arm wrestle gods, time travel, go into completely alternate dimensions, it's all good.

I this books is a real kick in the teath for a lot of people who acuse Superman of not being a great character because he's too powerful, especially considering Superman is actually made more powerful in about the first 4 pages of the comic. Give him a good writer Superman's options are limitless.

Also Supermans faces a lot of villains who are more than a match for him. Doomsday, Brainiac, or Kryptonians (Superman is apparantly one of about 1000 or so last sons of Krypton). If your only source is the movies where Luthor (and Nukular Man *wretch*) is the only guy ever used for some bizare reason you may think that Superman never meets his match, but he does.
Is that the one where

He is slowly becoming more powerful and intelligent but he's also slowly dying?
Because that was a good one.
Yeah, that's the one. Easily the best superman story in my opinion, but then again I've never Alan Moores "Whatever happened to the Man of Steel?" and "Red Son" which I've heard are both damn good.

...Yeah, best comic ever made, no kidding.

If we count anime characters, my money is on Alucard from Hellsing. Or Captain Falcon. I know enough about him to know that his punch was visible from outside of our own galaxy... (So how did he not destroy the sun and neighboring systems, let alone planet Earth?)

And if not, then... Well... I'm sure there's some parody superhero out there.

I think we are all forgetting Supes weakness to magic. Or even the Hulks limitless strength has the potential to dwarf Supermans super but limited strength.

No point to continue on, he may be completely bland but superman does beat everyone else.
You are forgetting Darwin from the X-men. Super-man has Kryptonite. You shove radiation at Darwin, and his body will start feeding off it. Take it away, and he won't need it any more. The man is quite literally invincible.

Red Son is incredible, and my favourite Superman story by far. If you're going to pick another Superman title to pick up, let that be the one.

A lot of people are saying batman but I haven't seen anyone mention that batman is not a superhero (I skipped page 2 inform me if it's there) he's no even a hero in strictest sense, he's an anti-hero he does evil for the sake of good.

As for most powerful? green lantern batman, he counts as superhero if he's got a lantern ring, or the silver surfer and if we move to terrestrial heroes my money is all on jubilee or wonder woman.

And here's one for you considering how often people lob kryptonite at him why hasn't superman ever taken the time to learn a martial art? or boxing? or anything for that matter? he's useless, without his super powers he always gets his ass handed to him by regular people.

Superman is a fucking Mary Sue. Why do people like him?

Edit: Aquaman controls Cthulu. He has my vote depending on how powerful Cthulu is.

Its gotten to the point where whenever superman comes a-charging, instead of shitting bricks, Lex shits out Kryptonite.

Supermans utterly useless imo. =o

Anyway, it would have to be one of the god characters, Marvel has 'the Creator' or something along with others, and DC has its own as well, Dr. Manhattan since I can't name any other.

I barely know anything about comics or superheroes, but i've heard of Cable being (one of?) the most powerful.

His wiki said he used his telekinesis to lift an entire city while fighting the Silver Surfer, that seems pretty powerful to me :D

Batman trumps Superman and all super heroes because he has all their weaknesses at the ready to take them out. Hell, Batman keeps a small thing of kryptonite on him just in case Superman goes rogue. I can't imagine a hero in the DC universe that Batman isn't prepared for.

=========================================

OT: Sadly, while I think Batman is probably the best the DC universe has to offer, the reality bending powers of Dr. Strange will probably seal the deal for me. Be invincible to everything all you want, but when the rules of reality are changed, who can say what the fuck will happen except that you're probably going to lose.

Doctor Manhattan Sir.

For Marvel, it could quite possibly be Iron Man if the Enemy doesn't bring any can-openers.

But seriously for marvel... the Hulk went through that phase where he killed almost everyone. Even Galactus would probably lose to him.

Squirrel Girl... I don't know if she's better than Superman, she's in the Marvel Universe, so there's no way to tell for sure.

Silver surfer could probably hand superman's ass on a platter. Any magic being worth it's salt would walk over him like a door mat.

Superman is a good example of an overrated super hero.
Haha, forget Galactus, Superman couldn't take on Imperiex by himself. He had to rope in every single hero, villain, and their mum to take him on.

Silver Surfer uses cosmic energy, not magic. He could go toe-to-toe with a Green Lantern but Superman is very unlikely. Superman-Prime = VERY unlikely.

And I agree, overrated. For me, he is also not used effectively. Superman has been depowered since the Silver Age to keep him from tearing apart the universe with his pinky. Writers rarely focus on his ingenuity and quick thinking and reduce him to that off every other being with his core power set.

EDIT: OT: The Spectre is the strongest in the DC Universe, I believe. He's stronger than the Shazam mortals, Superman, Ion and the Anti-Monitor. I wouldn't know for Marvel, probably Galactus on a full belly.

Completely forgot about Darwin...he's not used nearly often enough, but then isn't he in X-Factor now? Not a comic I read currently.... When I learned of him, I thought he was quite a compelling character.

He was holding an island together with his telekinesis, but I don't recall the Silver Surfer getting involved. Shortly after Cable's powers got weaker and he had to use most of them to keep his techno-organic virus at bay.
He was recently killed also. About a month or 2 ago
