Most terrifying game ever

When it all boils down to it no game is actually scary to me. The best i managed to tear away from Silent Hill series and Penumbra was an exiting tension that made me smile, the same feeling I get when watching The Grudge. Penumbra itself lost all of that pleasant tension the moment I saw one of the baddies and after that it was just plain boring.

Silent Hill 2 remains the sole victor if that pleasant tingling of exitement equals to what humans consider fear. Maybe it's some sort of weird masochism?
Anyway, yay Silent Hill, woo.

I've still got to say Silent Hill. When it's completely dark, nothing but the flashlight for light... and the radio is giving off static but you don't know where the enemy is coming from... then the ringing starts because you know it's close... and shit! I loved that game

Eternal Darkness: Sanity's Requiem. Freaked both me and my twin bro out so much that he couldn't play past the Blue Screen of Death Psych Out effect.

And for the sheer terror of bad games: Universal Park Studios Theme Park Adventure. That game is so terrifying for existing at all. The controls on the Jaws minigame make it both annoying and scary at the same time.

Halo 3 online.......I still have nightmares about the shrill voices yelling....make them stop.
But in all seriousness, mine would have to be Condemned 2. Main two reasons: The bear and the dolls that explode.

I know it's a stage in a game, but Ravenholm. Christ.... Even after the eighth time playing that game I still get scared on that level.

Oh and the Silent Hills (except Homecoming and origins obviously). First games to make me cry, and piss my pants in fear. *shudders*

Project zero 2 [thats fatal frame 2 for you yanks :p]
not only was it scary with ghosts with plenty of 'jumpy' and 'oh shit!' moments, but it was about twins, and lets face it, twins are always creepy

oh did i mention the only weapon you have is a camera?
Not to mention the freaky woman that crawls out of a box. I have no idea why that hit me so much, I mean it was a damn empty box that almost had a 'I am inhabited by a ghost woman' sign, but I still went photo crazy.

Fatal Frame 2 is probably the scariest. Hearing that heartbeat start and seeing that filament turning orange is most definitely a Maalox moment.

I'm going to mention Genma Onimusha as well. It's Onimusha Warlords, only better, and one of the reasons it's better is Ayame, the doll. You cannot kill her* and she's deadly. She pops up randomly and all you can do when you hear her bell is run like hell.

*Technically, you can kill her. I did it before leaving Gifu for the last time, but I had the Ogre armor, and was fully powered up with three weapons of magic. Took it all and I can't remember how many health items.

Although I have a limited opinion, having only played doom 3, resident evil 2, Bioshock, System Shock 1&2...

I think System Shock 2 is the scariest out of them.

Condemned. I still haven't finished the last level because I'm too scared of the basement!

The bit with the manikins that appear around you is so terrifying. Not to mention the bit when you drop your torch!

Half Life 2. Ravenholm never fails to terrify me, and the games oppressive atmosphere is really freaky when you play it at night, in the dark with headphones on.

I have to wonder, what was the scariest game any of you guys played before silent hill or fear or anything after playstation came out? Anyone else frightened out of wits end by Doom?
