I will forever hate the hidius creature that is health regen. Halo started it and from their one we constantly end up haveing to wait for our health to regain, I beleive that a healthbar system can make a game enjoyabl especialy games with stealth and other elements that are ment to have previous actions effect your current situation. Health regeneration is a horribal trend and is screwing some of the best games. (Rumer is Deus ex3 is going to have health regen)
Health regen is horrible. It makes some games more enjoyable since it means I don't have to run around the level looking for magic point blank shotgun shell curing med-kits and I don't need to worry about facing the final boss with only two health. I agree though that it's not suitable for some games, Left 4 Dead comes up immediately. It would really hurt the teamwork.

OT: Borderlands has all sorts of ridiculous weapons that would never work in reality. The Zombie Island of Doctor Ned is also just plain ridiculous.

A pie chart chased by ghosts in a maze full of drugs and interdimensional fruit.

WAKKA WAKKA WAKKA WAKKA WAKKA...

Better: Two lines and a dot. THAT MOVE.

That is not right or realistic on any level.
Naw man, that's entirely realistic. Its how the Bauhaus played tennis. Just look at the restrained and austere use of line! Unmistably influenced by the Deutscher Werkbund. But if you still aren't convinced, try this for proof: See if you rally the dot back and forth 400 times without actually scoring the Nazis come in and shut the school in Dessau down and forcing you to continue play in Berlin, under a climate thats intolerant of the Modernist movement.

In fact, Pong contains the most realistic depiction of Nazis in videogames of all time.

PacMan on the other hand is a world where, with the proper medication, a pie chart can perform an exorcism, when there is no evidence what so ever that any diety exists, except for the fundamentalist Queenian interpretation of the fruit's ephemeral nature -

"Easy come, easy go, will you let me go?
Bismillah! No, we will not let you go
Let him go "

They think Freddy Mercury is singing about the fruit in Pacman.
...

-hands you an internet cookie-

That was magnificent.

MW2 the airport mission (Somebody had to say it.) The fact that you couldn't just stop the whole event from happening because you had to "Keep your cover" is just absurd.
Let us also not forget the sequence when you're in outerspace at the space station and the force of a nuclear blast on the EARTH causes you and the space station to go flying out into space endlessly.

At this point I'm wondering if anyone at IW passed high school Physics because they should've realized that the only method for a nuclear blast to travel through space is air.

Halo's shields completely ruined the game's multiplayer. Well, I guess it is ok for some people, like this one noob that said it is completely unfair for someone to sneak up on you and kill you without giving you a change to kill them back... Wish I could get hit by a rocket, hide behind a rock and be fully healed again.

Something I never understood though... On maps for Joint Operations, people bitched that it was unrealistic for the AI to respawn, but they were perfectly find with them shooting you through bushes, mountains, from a mile away, through fog, or a combination of all those with perfect accuracy.

And, pretty much every online shooter game is unrealistic. Why? You come back to life when you die.

It's not when a game is unrealistic that makes it bad it's when it's (to quote Mr.spock) illogical.

All of them, except maybe sport games. Even military sims are pretty unrealistic if you factor in the damage system which is rather primitive, even for a game like ARMA 2.

I feel as though this topic should have been reworded a bit. Yeah, every game is unrealistic, if it were the same as real life who would actually buy something they can experience? I'd lean towards maybe an inconsistent element that relates to real life, but thats just meh x.x bleh.

Anyway how about that shooters now generally have the "sit behind a rock and let your wounds magically heal" feature that does indeed take alot of the difficult out of most games.

Or in Final Fantasy X where you can literally use Yuna's summonings the entire game once she's in the party and never use your other characters? She's in the party 95% of the game, with the exception of a few hours in the beginning and a few in the center, she's consistently there.

Seriously, you can argue that there are several bosses that can instant kill your Aeons, but in order to assassinate them, they have to take a turn and as long as they unleash their overdrive before they die, the battle is damn near won. Just summon the next one and repeat the process, theres almost ten of them in the game, and its the easiest and most broken way to beat almost every battle.

The whole world physics of TF2, mind you i love that game, and i love how absurd it is, but the fact the people rocket jump, set themselves on fire and throw piss at one another as a weapon is unrealisticaly epic.

...kind of a strange topic
and the responses too haha

the fallout series ghouls...even if a human survived the inital heat blast, and radiation wave (with their skin unmelted and all vital organs still working) then they would die from dehydration or starvation or otherwise radiation poisoning.

one of my faveorite games of all time.

Metal Gear Solid 2: Fortune, when it actually turned out she was 'Lady Luck' i nearly threw the controller at the screen it was so out of place in a game that usually so neatly explained phenomena like that - even if the technology is years and years off, it was still AN explanation.
Yeah, the original game didn't have any stupid psychic shit. Oh wait...
I thought that was explained by the nanomachines though? Then again there was so much dialogue i'm not sure what was or wasn't explained away now :p
