Or be like me and dig into the 60's and 70's :)

Nah, plenty of stuff out there. You just gotta take a leap and don't turn away from things that might initially sound strange.

aside:
Lot's of metalheads on here, true on most gameforums really.

Makes me sad, there's so much out there and you listen to just one or two genres? *sniffles

look for the specific genre you like then.
I agree, i like alternative music. Like weird scandinavian underground bands. Punk and metal you would never know to exist unless you see them at a festival or something.

It's slowly deteriorating, frankly what 99% of the reply's said, the good music of today is hidden. None of it's great but there is still some decent stuff out there.

What type are you looking for? Or do you just like anything with a good riff?

Here's something a little different - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1hpeeuIGo6M&feature=PlayList&p=7B21E57EAFBE6015&playnext_from=PL&playnext=1&index=1

You're just looking in the wrong place. Find a genre of music you enjoy, then search only for that. For me, that genre is Symphonic Metal. As of now, I have a 'big 4' of terrific Symphonic Metal bands: Nightwish, Epica, Krypteria, and Within Temptation.

You can find good music, you just need to know what your definition of good is, first.
If you like Nightwish then i recommend you look up Delain, they are kinda the same but not, also Marco guest stars in their new album.

This is a particularly good song by them: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7Z6G2VixTMI

I already listen to two of them, but I haven't gotten around to Epica, and never heard of Krypteria.

If you like your symphonic metal with heavy doses of fantasy imagery, I might recommend Rhapsody of Fire.
I'm fairly certain I've already been recommended that band; maybe even by you.
Heh, probably. I seem to recall giving a few such recommendations (were you the one looking for metal bands with female lead vocalists?).

Epica has been terrific throughout all their Albums, and Krypteria is quite good, though they're at their best in the first few albums.

..ooh, gothic!

*listens to past first chorus*

Slower than I usually go for, but still nice. I'll listen to the whole thing when I wake up (quarter-past one in the morning, here).

...oh hell yes. I'd better finish listening in the morning, or I'll be too wired to sleep!
Yea, that was me; I'd prefer to have a 'Big 5' instead of a 'Big 4'.

Krypteria is very different from my other 3 bands, but they're still very good. They tend to use Latin a lot, whether for the chorus or just their full song.

As for Epica, the singer is a Soprano like Tarja, and they have a very heavy sound throughout, along with a guy who adds 'death grunt' type singing into the mix.
You could give Leaves' Eyes a shot too. A little too gothic maybe. But it's good.

If you want some good music, don't look in magazines or youtube most viewed, they are usually bought out by record companies to say an album is amazing

Try this for a starting point and message me if you want anything else

Excactly.

It isn't dead it just isn't mainstream. Unfortunatly you gotta actually search around to find good music.

Thats what they said when disco/jazz/techno/rock/rap/etc stopped being the popular mainstream music. Popular music is ever changing. Your dad said the exact same thing when he heard you listening to whatever you listen too instead Earth Wind & Fire or Michael Jackson.

Just because mainstream music nowadays is bad doesn't mean that music is dead, there's still some good bands....

K'naan and Classified are quite good as well. They're not as mainstream as some, even though they have record deals.

I really, really disagree. Pop music is made to appeal to as a wide an audience as it can, so by it's very nature it's bland. There are plenty of bands that have come through in the last few bands that kick ass, like Black Stone Cherry.

What do you get when you mix Led Zeppelin, Queens of the Stone Age, and the Foo Fighters?

[small]Them.[/small] Crooked. Vultures.
Yeah, but they're all old school bands, so really...

And things with Jack White are usually pretty cool. (Dead Weather didn't float my boat though).

Musical Tastes are a relative thing

I find new and good music all the time in the British and German Post-Punk Underground scene; Just go look for it rather then sticking with the conventional ways of obtaining musical knowledge (lulz MTV is just sooooooooo terrible).
