Yeah you're right, I'm very quick to judge a lot of mainstream electro. Mainly because there is a lot of rubbish out there that really irks me.zen5887 said:Hahah, we played a Sneaky Sound System medley ~.^danosaurus said:You're doing covers of electro tracks... :|
Sorry to be blunt but that's a serious waste of talent imo. Though I am partial to Daft Punk, as long as you're not covering bands like Sneaky Sound System...
Would be keen to hear some stuff though!
I think those songs, as much as I'm not into em, are far from a waste of talent. We chucked a drum solo in Weekend and Rock Your Body, reharmonized (different chords, same melody) the outro to Rock Your Body, put in a massive keys solo in the SSS medley and my fills in Umbrella were pretty out-there.
Even if we didn't add all that stuff we had a fair bit of work to do, keeping those songs tight was a massive challenge (and pretty vital, considering they are all groove based) and the vocals were pretty tough. The songs themselves were pretty out there as well - The chord progression for weekend is I-ii-#i-biv and where did that flat 5 diminished come from in Don't Hold Back.
What I'm getting at is you can't write off these songs because they appear simple, they usually have some weird shit going on, and the fact that they managed to make them so accessible is more power to them.
All in all I think we played harder then your average pub rock band playing Fuel and Oasis covers.
Sounds like you've really played around with those songs though and made them your own instead of just doing a straight out cover, good stuff!
How did the Bass Player hold up? There'd be a lot of pressure on keeping the low-end tight yeah?
