You're doing covers of electro tracks... :|

Sorry to be blunt but that's a serious waste of talent imo. Though I am partial to Daft Punk, as long as you're not covering bands like Sneaky Sound System...

Would be keen to hear some stuff though!
Hahah, we played a Sneaky Sound System medley ~.^

I think those songs, as much as I'm not into em, are far from a waste of talent. We chucked a drum solo in Weekend and Rock Your Body, reharmonized (different chords, same melody) the outro to Rock Your Body, put in a massive keys solo in the SSS medley and my fills in Umbrella were pretty out-there.

Even if we didn't add all that stuff we had a fair bit of work to do, keeping those songs tight was a massive challenge (and pretty vital, considering they are all groove based) and the vocals were pretty tough. The songs themselves were pretty out there as well - The chord progression for weekend is I-ii-#i-biv and where did that flat 5 diminished come from in Don't Hold Back.

What I'm getting at is you can't write off these songs because they appear simple, they usually have some weird shit going on, and the fact that they managed to make them so accessible is more power to them.

All in all I think we played harder then your average pub rock band playing Fuel and Oasis covers.
Yeah you're right, I'm very quick to judge a lot of mainstream electro. Mainly because there is a lot of rubbish out there that really irks me.
Sounds like you've really played around with those songs though and made them your own instead of just doing a straight out cover, good stuff!

How did the Bass Player hold up? There'd be a lot of pressure on keeping the low-end tight yeah?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SE256Q0NoiA

My new band has a gig tomorrow night, and the one in the clip is playing at one of Brisbane's raddest venues in November.

I'm the bass player btw.
Hey hey hey.
My band is playing that song.

Awesome.
(My Funny Valentine rocks.)

EDIT
It just changed.
The beginning was the best.

Lame, myspace is blocked at work!
have you got another site or youtube vids?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SPrSaTyKyls

That song is older than the ones on Myspace. Not as good as our newer stuff, but it gives you an idea of our sound.
Even though I litsen to heavier stuff. I can't help but to like that!

Good stuff man!

I play a lot of music, I haven't recorded anything yet though. Recording equipment is too damn expensive.
Nonsense, if you've got a computer and a soundcard you can record.

All you need is some software, plug in your instrument and you're away!
You try "Plugging in" a drum kit then. It's harder than it sounds, I'd need a few mics first, and they would have to hook up to a mixer. Just to buy those things it would be a few hundred dollars, and I don't exactley have a steady income.
Sorry, didn't know you were on drums mate :|
Pretty much any other instrument though, you could do it with. I've recorded Bass//Guitar through a line-in and it works a charm, vocals through a $50 microphone and run a few enhancement filters through it to clean it up and it's almost studio-quality.

On the other hand, if you had an electronic drum-kit - that might solve your problems... though those puppies aren't really cheap either :(
Yeah, works fine for guitar. Any way you look at it, recording music with drums is expensive, my kit costed around $800, and that's about as cheap as they get. Electrics cost more, recording equiment is expensive and drum kits need multiple mics. Stupid money system -.-

I think I did okay, me and the drummer are really cool with each other so I know what's going on there. A big problem I had was endurance.. There are only so many octaves and m7s I can play, but I managed to keep everything going even when the drummers kick pedal broke.

Oops sorry, I thought you were the drummer?
Kudos to keeping up with those types of basslines though!
It's not just speed either, the timing must be tricky as too, especially if you're customising and taking liberties with it :)

Fuck that's great! You're melting my face off!

What kind of FX pedal do you use? Try tweaking your distortion a little more, make it a bit crunchier//tighter, I wanna hear every single one of those sweeps!
I'm totally jealous *eyes your fingers hungrily*

you know if they chucked Mike Patton into that band as well, it'd create a singularity.

Haha the timing was hi-larious at some points. Having hits on the and of 4, and the stupid amount of triplets we put in our original. The drummer, the guitarist and myself like to put as many musical in-jokes as we can in our songs.

Actually I wasn't using any kind of fx I was just playing over something I recorded myself, unfortunately it decreased the sound quality considerably. I'm planning on getting some decent recording equipment soon.

One After 909 is awesome! Nice work, love the style.

I am in band, but we have nothing online yet, and probably won't do any time soon as we're all off to university soon. I'm a pretty good bassist and guitarist (mainly bass though) so hopefully I can get a band going at uni.

Yeah a mate of mine's a bit of a shredder too but he refuses to upgrade to some decent recording equipment. He's basically recording his backing tracks to cassette and playing them back to shred over.

What's your favourite style to play?

I try so hard to make a band but the other guys aren't as enthusiastic to even practice the songs we agree on.
Ditch them and move on.
No point sticking with no-hopers if you've got aspiration... are they stoners by any chance?

Although I play drums and am currently working on a train version of "I'm On A Boat", I am not much for making music. I'm simply not soulful enough to compose anything great.
What do you mean by great?
In my opinion - as long as it's from your own mind, it's unique and that's where the 'soul' of music lies.

We are all 14-16. The are not stoners. And there are no drummers in my school that aren't already taken. And there few of them anyway.

Maybe you've gotta look harder, possibly outside of your school?

I'm in the marching band at high school, trombone! I love making music. Probably because i love it when people smile, and music makes people smile. everyone likes a good marching band.

My friend has the same problem. His main band (no relation to the band I mentioned before) needs a drummer. They seem to be in short supply because everyone is sticking to guitar, like me. =P
