I really don't get it. Are these people not self aware in the slightest? Don't they realise that all this petty complaining (not to mention the insane over reaction and violence at the US embassies) only brings about more offensive material and distaste of Muslims. Have they learned nothing from Everybody Draw Mohammed day?

Sorry, I can understand the anger against the rioters and whatnot (Although that was blown out of proportion and those responsible for attacking the embassy were removed by other citizens, the entire militia was kicked outa town.) but you are seeming to say that those who are currently protesting peacefully are not "Self aware" and that this somehow makes them DESERVE the offensive material and "distaste of Muslims".

Hey, I didn't say they 'DESERVE' it, I merely said they caused it, I just don't think what they're doing is helping matters. Out of curiosity, have you heard of draw Mohammed day, and the few south park episodes that reference or include drawings of Mohammed?

Here's how it went down. Obscure dutch (I think it was a dutch paper, or maybe danish? I'm pretty sure it was a mainland European nationality beginning with D at any rate) newspaper cartoonist draws Mohammed. Some Muslims complain about Mohammed drawing. Hundreds of people everywhere accuse Muslims of over-reacting, whining, working against free speech (what I meant by distaste of Muslims). Said people Draw Mohammed a lot in protest. South Park makes episodes about it. More offense is generated.

As for rape example, the complaints would be far more worthy for a start, but, and this may get angry comments, if their complaints provably caused them to get raped again, wouldn't it be best to tell them to keep quiet? You know, to avoid rape. (This is strictly in the situation where it is proven that their comment would cause them to get raped, I am not in any way advocating rape or blaming the victim, this is a purely hypothetical and nonsensical situation. Rapists in real life are the scum of the Earth.)

OT: This is getting tiresome. The film is a massive dick move but that's about all it amounts to, it doesn't really do much more than be a shitty film that nobody in their right mind would consider sitting through for the full feature length. While it's offensive it doesn't need to have death follow it or demand protests and riots, it's wholly unnecessary. While I commend them for maintaining a peaceful approach I can easily see this escalating when one bad apple jumps in.

I suspect that may have been the point. If you ever wanted an example of religion causing irrational behavior, the makers of this film have provided it. I respect anyone's right to believe what they like, but these people are irrational, hypocritical and obnoxious. I personally did not enjoy the part of the video I saw before closing it. I thought it was poorly made, dull and lacking in humor or merit, but I respect the right of anyone to make such a video without threats of violence.

Some Muslims just don't get how counter productive these protests are. If you want to show the strength of your faith then ignore little things, like a terribly unfunny green-screened comedy that nobody saw. All they've done was turn something completely insignificant and easily forgotten into a monster; now everyone knows about it and people even died because of it. Peaceful protest is preferable though. So at least that's something.

I suspect a fair few of you have been bullied in your life. Imagine, if you will, a world where the bullying doesn't stop at you being shoved around or called silly names when you're a kid. A world where a vast, powerful and apparently monolithic (Viewed from the outside, of course) society seems intent on doing anything in it's power to harm you, every second of your life.

A society that passes laws specifically forbidding you from wearing a symbol that you hold dear. If you have a dead relative, for the sake of juxtaposition, imagine a law that specifically demands that you keep no picture or written record of that person. Specifically that person. Everyone else keeps their mementos, just not you.

A society that mocks and humiliates you at every turn, and when you are insulted, acts shocked and gets away with it smelling like roses.

A society that seems to dictate the rules of "the game" to you. A society that tells you what you should do, when, how and why, and is empowered to punish you for breaking their rules.

A society that, from all appearances, is intent on holy war against you and would like nothing more than to exterminate every last one of you.

I'd be pissed off against that society. I'd act against it every chance I got. And that is the image that "The West" (Stupid, artificial, made-up construct that it is) projects to these people, consistently and effectively.

People, this isn't about these muslim communities having to grow a thicker skin. This is about us having to grow a heart, because that cold, dark, dead thing that pumps blood to our brain needs fixing.

I kind of have a hard time accepting that 'peaceful protest' and 'barricaded people in their office' go together. I'm sure the second part breaks at least couple of laws (Fire hazard being the only one I know for sure they must have in the UK).

Anywho, if the Muslims protesting are doing so in complete ignorance (IE haven't even watched the video they're killing people over), then just tear gas 'em or something. (The Muslims in London may not have been the ones who killed people, but what they're doing is still probably unlawful and unreasonable. And the fact that they're still protesting over something that they don't fully comprehend is reason enough to shoo them away using chemical agents or fire hoses if necessary 'cause they're obviously not going to listen to reason.)

There are laws that protect peaceful protests. If the police wanted to be pedantic about it then they could come up with something to disband the protest, but rationally they aren't doing anything wrong, and would have a strong leg to stand on in court.

As for the extremists, well they need stopping. What they did is murder and an act of terrorism seeing as they attacked an embassy and killed a peaceful representative of another country.

Not really. He produced the film under an alias and when he was found out, he went into hiding. He's currently in jail.

Well, he IS damn pleased with the shitstorm he caused. If you follow up on who he is, who funded him and what his aims were, the entire point of the film was to cause a shitstorm.

Hence the whole "Dubbing what the actors were actually saying and replacing it with nonsensical anti-Islamic bullshit". Then again, my views are based on what the Guardian states on the matter (The money came from Angry Copts and ultra-orthodox Jews, both of which want to destabilize the post-Mubarak regime, which was the entire point of the film).

And he is in Jail for violating the terms of his parole, what with being a convicted fraudster who was barred from using a false name or using the internet.

you know this might have been a point a hundred years ago or so, but "muslims" are everywhere, they aren't just in the middle east or something, they are among plenty of western styled countries, and if you want to live in a world with all the freedoms it has, you better expect to take some blows on your beliefs, everyone does.

this idea isn't exclusive to islam, it's about growing a fucking backbone and dealing with the fact that you might/will be offended at some point in time, you don't see normal people freaking out and blowing things up and burning flags.

The link is a PERFECT example of Catholics doing the exact same thing you just argued that Muslims do. So DON'T even tempt me to bring the KKK and Westboro Baptist Church into this.

There are just as many Religious extremists in the Western and European parts of the world, as there are in the Middle East. Only difference is that they're the dominant religions of our countries, and so most people will blindly see them as these impeccable beacons of righteousness.
