Who the hell looks at the user score on meta critic anyways?
There are always a bunch of fan boys being overzealous in both good and bad ways.

he asked for support, he didn't try to manipulate it or anything, and the people who play CoD got pissed. why? because they just destroyed by some smartass 8 year old from Norway. i'm sorry, but the biggest thing that i hate about the MW games is the fan base. while i hate them, it isn't 1.9 bad. it's mediocre. it's like bread and water. it's not bad, it's just lacking plenty of things to make it something good. the only truly bad thing about it is that it allows other companies think that this is what the gaming industry needs, more MW clones. while it isn't nearly this bad, it's like Twilight in the sense that it makes companies think that the best thing to do is make crappy vampire romance stories.

I guess it's not enough to sit on a big pile of cash if people are saying your game sucks. God that's PATHETIC, seriously.
But this didn't come from Activision. This came from one of the groups of developers that worked their asses off and didn't see their families for months in order to get this game on the shelves on time. It's not about money.

If a person genuinely doesn't like an aspect of the game/graphics/mechanics/audio/physics/whatever, then fine; leave an honest review. But to just shit all over lots of people's very hard work and late nights anonymously is a spineless, idiotic, totally dickish thing to do.

Modern Warfare 3 is a good game. Is it a 10/10? No. But it looks good, sounds good, the frame rate is great, and it's a blast (pun intended) to play.

See, but it's pathetic for any sort of artist to care so much about blatant trolling. That's my problem.

Also, so it's not about money, it's about fame and having people tell you that your mediocre game is awesome because their your fans. Still pathetic as well. My thing is the game is already going down in history for selling better than the bible (while being THROUGHLY mediocre according to everyone I've spoken to), so why does this douche also need a high Metacritic score from specifically the fans (as the review scores have been paid off to look like the game shits gold)? The only reasonable answer is not enough love from his mother as a child.

Treyarch sucks dick, and always will. CoD died with MW2, not that I was a big fan, just pointing out the writing on the wall.
I disagree. Having your work criticized for geniuine reasons is one thing. Having your hard work rated as worthless (because that's what 0/10 means) is downright insulting. Schofield is studio head at Sledgehammer, and I imagine what prompted the tweet was a lot of very upset and unhappy people in his studio who are probably exhausted, and a bit sensitive about this right now. As you would also be if you'd just worked your ass off - you'd want some recognition of a job well done, rather than a bunch of morons giving you 0/10 purely because some idiot on a forum told them to. It's not pathetic to care about your work... it's pathetic to not care.

I enjoyed MW3. It's a good game, just don't take it or yourself too seriously and you'll have fun.

PS. What have Treyarch got to do with this? Schofield from Sledgehammer sent the tweet.

Better for people who have actually played the game and thought it was good to say it's good rather than a bunch of idiots going "HURR DURR IT'S COD IT SUCKS DURR"
How about this, the COD series has a sh*tty single player run through and I'll be damned if I'm going to let that pass. The COD series SUCKS because they half ass the single player. Happy? I'm not, and you know why? Because I bought a video game thinking I could play SINGLE PLAYER. Geez what a concept!

TL:DR COD sucks for its single player and deserves the hate it gets for it.

If you've bought and played the game then that's fine.
If you haven't bought the game and are one of those idiots going "GWAAARGGH IT'S A CALL OF DUTY GAME THEREFORE IT MUST SUCK" then fuck you.

He was asking them to be honest. Yeah, he was hoping that honesty would be a high score, but still. If anything I'd have to question the "honesty" of the people giving the game a 1/10, because I'm fairly sure I played it without losing any major organs, which puts it at least at a 2.
I'm pretty sure one of George Carlin's sayings applies here...

"If honesty was introduced into the system, the entire thing would collapse!"

I know this is not verbatim, but it's close enough for my liking. And he was talking about honesty in government.

I did buy it b/c I was told it had decent single player....and it sucked. Multiplayer is good though, but that doesn't excuse the single player

Like I said, that's fine.
Don't try to convince me that the game is bad, I haven't played it and won't make a decision until I do, I just dislike taking part in conversations with previously mentioned "GWAAARGGH" people.

While there's nothing inherently wrong with rallying your fans using social media tools like Twitter - indie developers do it all the time and they are called being marketing savvy - I think the problem with Schofield's action is the timing and the fact that MW3 is the big target in gaming right now. It's generally not a wise thing to call for more support when you are making a boatload of cash.
But is Sledgehammer really making a boatload of money from MW3 or is Activision. I'm curious to know if the payment of royalties are dependent on a Metacritic score.

It's not like it's not happening.

Totally anecdotal, but I find user scores tend to be much higher than critic scores for new IPs, with user ratings generally dropping with each new iteration of a given title. Hm, wonder why that might be....

I get a vibe from the metacritics user reviews of "a game more popular than Battlefield 3? No, this cannot be happening. I haven't even played the game, but I'll give it a 1/10".

I dont like cod and i don't see anything wrong with the dev asking this.

Yea, its popularity will help continue this plague in gaming (-_-)... but review bombing is stupid. Unless the game raped your childhood it probably doesnt deserve a 0/10

Yeah no problem here. Getting you're developers to add a bunch of 10/10 scores is scummy, asking your fans to go give it an honest review is perfectly fine.
A fan making a post on some forums saying "Hey let's fight the metacritic trolls!" just looks like someone wanting to fight for something they love. A developer telling us all to go review his game because he feels the score is "suspiciously low" just looks like someone padding his own ego.

That's the difference, as I see it.

What fucking egos some of the people in Activision and the Modern Warfare team have.

They made nearly a billion dollars in 5 days, and it's not enough for them. No, they need to be told that everyone likes their game as well. I would NOT be surprised if they spend a chunk of the billion on lobbying to control user review scores, and donating to organizations pushing to censor the internet. Would not be surprised.

In fact, it's already happening, and I'm sure these movements are looking for donations. There you go Activision, you found your calling, and a place to put all your billions in, because you're sure as hell not putting it back into the MW franchise.

If you care what the hipsters who hate on your popular game think, please stop and do something constructive with your day job. There has got to be something for this guy to do besides pissing off the PR department (even if its just secretly playing EVE).

Huh. Overreaction again, just because it's CoD. Other devs do much, much worse when it comes to reviews, but when it's CoD it's the work of satan, clearly. I'm not even a massive CoD fan, but MW3 is not a 1.7 game. It just isn't. It works, it doesn't kill your console, it's a solid shooter (if a little bit of a retread). Given the bizarre way game reviews work right now I'd give it a 6/7. The guy didn't even say anything that bad, but nope, he's manipulating people, of course. Everyone who has anything to do with CoD must be evil. A guy posts a fairly reasonable tweet and apparently he's a manipulative **** with an ego the size of Jupiter. People made much less fuss when fucking Cliffy B got in a piss for even less.

So if EA had asked people to give Spore a high rating on Amazon because people gave the game a 1 just because of the DRM (as stupid as the DRM was it is doesn't reflect the game itself) would you guys will be saying it's fine for them to ask people to give honest reviews? If you can say yes I can take what you say seriously about what this guy did (I think both should keep their noses out to be honest).
