It's not even slightly controversial. As someone else said in another thread, you don't see the kid choking to death, nor anyone else doing the same. Just her and her mother disappearing in a cloud of green smoke, while the dad falls over and seemingly dies instantly, without any gasping breathes or choking sounds.

To be honest, TV shows have scenes that are a lot more controversial then that one. :p
Agree with this. Remember that scene in Lost where Sayid shot Ben as a kid outright? There was blood and everything, but I don't remember anyone complaining about it at all. Yet we see one kid disappear as the truck explodes....

To be honest, if this scene was not in a video game series that hadn't had that No Russian level, I don't think it would get even close as much attention. And if it had't been in a video game at all, no one would give a shit!

The Call of Duty series is desensitizing people to violence and death. Their games are aimed at an immature audience that will think killing everyone who is not the same as you is the right thing to do.
"I'm not sure if killing other people who are different than me is right, but if CoD says it's OK, then I'm down." Please, give your fellow man at least a little credit.

OT: I didn't think it was nearly as disturbing as No Russian, mainly because you aren't part of the act.

Why is the environment so gray? It looked like the girl was standing in a black and white photo.

Psh, that was so forced. It's screaming "LOOK AT ME, LOOK AT ME, I'M BEGGING TO HAVE CONTROVERSY SURROUND ME FOR SALES!" They just want buzz.

The only reason I don't want this to get a media shitstorm following it is because that's obviously what the developers want. They want people to talk about this game in every way possible.

Please fix the damn title of your thread in order to avoid spoiling the damn story for more people.

Thanks for ruining it for me by the way.
At least someone else is sharing my views on this.

Fuck, can I play one Cod game without the main story elements being posted everywhere? What the fuck guys.

You should apply to Fox. I'm sure they have a place for you.

Also, how the fuck is this a spoiler at all? It doesn't say which child, why the child dies, how the child dies, what importance the death of the child has to the plot. This isn't a fucking spoiler, guys.
No, but it ruins a scene actually intended to get an emotional response out of the player. Which makes it a spoiler, as it spoils the shock of seeing that scene for someone. So yes, its a spoiler.

These are my exact thoughts. Even though it is a game, it annoys me that developers have to create scenes like this, especially in game franchises that intentionally have no real emotion added to it.
Also, this has probably been mentioned, but FOX is going to have a field day with this...

As for what I think of it, whatever. No Russian wasn't a big deal and neither was this.
what did he spoil? the fact that CoD did a controversial thing to gain publicity? you know that's the only reason they made this, just like the scene at the airport in MW2.

kids die every day, from bombs, aids and war. We dont see it, but its not like it doesnt happen. As I type this at least 5 kids probably died somewhere. If this upsets you then find some bridge to jump off of cuz thats life.

I came across this very randomly, http://www.allgamesbeta.com/2011/11/modern-warfare-3-child-death-outrage.html or http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=dZhRNAeE9rk

Please take a minute to judge the video. You watched it ? Good, Okay as we can clearly see in what appears to be MW3 a child is killed by a bomb blast. Will this cause unnecessary controversy ? and what are your opinions ?

My opinion: I honestly don't have a problem with it, it's sad and a little disturbing but really I don't see it crossing any limits, the player is not actually interacting in anyway it's really just a cut scene and their have been far worse things in games then this so I'll happily let it pass.

I think the point of this is to cause contoversy. Controversy sells games.

But yeah my opinion of the actual clip is I'm surprised they went through with it. One thing I've learned from video games and a lot of films is children do not die on screen and if they do it isn't that sudden. That was a pretty grim moment really. Child dancing around happy
*bam*
they're dead.

Still I'm certain it's all just there to create controversy, so therefore gaining publicity, therefore gaining sales.

Like i said in the other thread about this, MODERN WARFARE 1 DROPPED A NUKE ON AN ENTIRE CITY. Lots of children died in that, we just didn't see them.
Exactly but

If we didn't see it, it didn't happen. I think that's idiotic, besides, sure the kid dies, that scene from prey is waaaay more graphic, I don't think there is a difference from the mother dying than from the kid dying. A life is a life.

That kid just seems so fucking Disney. I didn't feel a thing when she was blown up in that clip, and I didn't feel a thing during the No Russian mission in MW2 either.

Personally i'm waiting for the Daily Fail to do what it did last time and call in some agony aunt who knows nothing of games and force her 12 year old son to watch it (an 18 rated game) then moan about how it made her precious darling scared and cry like her..

And then probably say it killed Diana and causes cancer..

I could leave a honest comment about how cheap this trick that Activison pulled is. BUT instead I'm going to ask a question regarding the video:

Did the family make it to the big ben clock?

One of the things that's been pissing me the fuck off about COD these days is it's desperate act to try to get attention. The mission 'No Russian' in Modern Warfare 2 was just irritating because it was just the game's way of saying "HEY NEWS AND MEDIA COVERAGE LOOK! LOOK AT ME! HEY OVER HERE! GIVE ME ATTENTION!" And now this. Look the big nuke scene in COD4 was good because it was unexpected and shocking and you're walking across a deserted scene with the bodies of your dead comrades around you. Now COD has been desperately trying to capture that same WOW, but is severely failing.

You know the movie Jaws? You know how it's regarded as a classic and remembered fondly by millions?

Also had a child death scene, much more visceral at that. They have nothing to go on here.

It's almost like their brain-washing kids to do things. It's a conspiracy!

OT: It's like a scene from a really bad Batman film...
