Dead Island trailer anyone?

I'm sure getting chased down the corridor by zombies and then jumping out a 2 or 3 story building is a lot more unsettling than being instantly vaporised.

If I had to pick one, I would choose the nuke please.

It's an unfortunate truth of war. Innocent people including children are often involved when they shouldn't be. Video games should be able to talk about any subject like any other mass medium.

Honestly, all I see here is someone trying to show the horrors of war, and like Metal Gear Solid, it does a crappy job of doing so, because you just gunned down about 20 terrorists.
What relevance does this scene pose? Is it just there, trying to mean something? Why should I care about these people? Is it my wife and child, or is it just some random guy? Now, if beforehand we had a sequence where we got to know the woman and the child, and at least know who they are, it would achieve a lot more that it supposedly does.
Well, at least Call of Duty tried to flesh something out for once.

I swear they must say to the development team for each installment: 'Right guys, I want you to add more explosions that hit you and more bits where you get knocked to the floor. There needs to be a minimum of one per level because people love to see the same recycled shit over and over and besides it's so dramatic!'

Anyhow the clip is a failure, just like No Russian. Didn't provoke any emotional response just seemed like a try too hard attempt to be shocking.

Is it a bad thing that my first thought was when the mom and kid exploded right after she said she gets that from you my first thought was. What exploding?

OH GODS! NOT THE BIRDS!

In all honesty, this will SOMEHOW spark controversy, because the media love that. The video itself is just...meh, not even that emotional, unless there's backstory on these characters, it's not even worth having in there, just filler, an attempt to tug at heartstrings with nothing.

Meh, it was only a tourist.

In all seriousness, that didn't seem too bad. Like someone else said earlier, MW1 nuked a city where tons of unseen children died. Homefront killed a kid's parents right in front of...it which I found to be in poorer tastes. This wasn't as funny as I would have thought though so I guess this was just a fail all around. I don't see why the father died though, maybe he dropped the camera in shock but he seemed far enough away from the blast radius to have lived.
I have to agree with you on the homefront one, That scene actually made me have to pause the game and take a moment away from it. I hate seeing physical and mental suffering, especially in kids.

At least in this, as people say, you don't actually see anything. It's a quick, painless affair.

I think you guys are overreacting, giving this game a bad rep for just about everything it does. And who said it was trying to be controversial? It's probably trying to just show that people, even children die in a war setting. What's wrong with that?

Not even sure what they are trying to do with this scene. I guess it's for emotional shock, but it doesn't actually contribute to the scene, it's just kinda there

I don't think that it should be controversial, but it most likely will be. I'm just shocked that the child death in prey (put in earlier) wasn't controversial. I mean...my gods man..

odd that this one didn't caught controversy
You're right. That scene in COD is ridiculously tame in comparison to the creepy spirit murdering those kids in horrible ways. And that's probably why the clip from COD pretty much had no effect on me what so ever.

I don't think many people actually knew about Prey when it came out. I don't think many people are aware of its existence now. Which is a shame because it is a good game.

You know what I just noticed which made me laugh out loud? You can actually see the little red damage indicator at the top of the screen when the bomb goes off. I'm imagining some white text coming up saying "You were killed by a van laden with explosives. Watch out for the explosive-van danger indicator."

If any other game did this, no one would have a problem. But since it's COD, it's bad...

Ugh, the escapist has literally began to really piss me off lately...

Damn, I remember seeing that and wanting to fuck up that ghost like it was no ones mother trukin' business.

Why do people seem to think this is in the game to cause controversy? Plenty of games, movies, tv shows, and whatnot have had scenes where kids die. It's not that big of a deal. Its not like you kill the kid or anything, its just there to make you mad and establish who the bad guys are, while driving home that whole "war sucks" message the games have.
In CoD, by this point, there is no real reason to have it, it doesn't drive that War Sucks thing home, ask any of its playerbase now, especially frat boys, if war was like this game, WOULD YOU go into war?

In one, the motto, war sucks, and your only a pawn in it. Was the biggest message I got out of the FPS thing in a while. You could only do so much, you tried to run from the blast, you tried to stop your enemies, but you are only a man doing hard work. THAT was large because no one really knew what was going to happen and no one thought that it would be that... Surprising. This isn't, sure its unsettling, but it doesn't bring home that feel.

I came across this very randomly, http://www.allgamesbeta.com/2011/11/modern-warfare-3-child-death-outrage.html or http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=dZhRNAeE9rk

Please take a minute to judge the video. You watched it ? Good, Okay as we can clearly see in what appears to be MW3 a child is killed by a bomb blast. Will this cause unnecessary controversy ? and what are your opinions ?

My opinion: I honestly don't have a problem with it, it's sad and a little disturbing but really I don't see it crossing any limits, the player is not actually interacting in anyway it's really just a cut scene and their have been far worse things in games then this so I'll happily let it pass.
I don't find it particularly necessary but I'm gonna do something weird and say I am actually GLAD they did this. Movies do this shit all the time, I'm tired of the double standard, it is about times games got equal treatment. I personally wouldn't run around and shoot kids but why is it okay for us to blow away innocent adults in games but not children? Anybody with half a brain realizes games are simply for fun, there is nothing real about them, so I wish people would quit pretending like this is some sort of horrible issue. I don't think we should make a habit of killing kids in games but at the same time, invulnerable kids or no kids is such an annoyance.
