Holy shit, thats creepy. Thats funny to me too (but I have something of an unhealthy obession with all things Persona and SMT) but exceedingly creepy.

They way I look at it, there's one of three things at work.
1) This is a very horrible Ad campaign by Atlus/someone wanting to advertise Persona 4 (which is so unlikely I honestly think I'll grow wings before that happens).
2) Someone was a really big fan of the game and either:
2a) thought it would be cool to replicate a death of a another human being
2b) thought it would be cool to commit suicide in the manner.
3) its completely incidental.

Either way, I'm telling my friends/family in Michigan to go out and buy glasses now, stay away from the Tv, and pull out their arcana cards. I'll be up later with my hair dyed silver.
I'm going to plump for number 3. But on a serious note it's nice to see that people here aren't making fun of the guy concerned.

This is a really messed up story indeed, but I think anyone who's played P4 would naturally recognize the similarity, and I don't think we should attack John Funk for doing so.

Still, to the youth of Michigan, a light warning: if a gas station attendant asks to shake your hand in the next few days, politely decline...

That's not a "major spoiler", the tv bit happens about 1 hour into an 80-100 hour RPG

EDIT: And anyone who has seen a trailer knows about that aswell

EDIT: Am I the only one who finds it weird that the game came out in 2008/9 but the events in game took place in 2011? What year is it again...?
It's not about the TV thing. I used the HOLY CRAP, SPOILERS part to cover John's spoiler about who the killer is, so it won't spoil anything if the main article will be edited (and it was). What was in the article before the edit, clearly gave it away who is responsible for the murders.

This is seriously bizarre although I haven't played Persona 4 I'll definitely try it but in this situation I actually want to hear about the result mainly out of curiosity. Of course now I sound like I take the life of another human lightly, I don't games as well as this site have taught me somethings.

Holy crap. and to think that P4 not only takes place in 2011, but also starts in April! And that I started playing it just a few weeks ago makes it all the more creepier. And I live in Michigan. and i have long, brown hair. and know a tomboyish girl at school. and I own a pair of glasses that I hardly ever wear. holy crap I think I might be Yosuke o_O

Well, I've never played that game (I know) but I did just watch a Dr. Who episode about an alien creature using TVs to feed off of people in the 30s, so this still creeps me out.
I watched that episode yesterday. It was a creepy episode.
Freakin' creepy no-faced people.

This is in pretty poor taste. If you have to follow anything with a "but..." you probably shouldn't say it.

For God's sake, a man died. Could we not use his death as a plug to play an old JRPG?

Aside from the "1000-foot-high" part, that is creepily similar. Somebody warn me when the fog sets in.
It has been very foggy in mid Michigan lately...

I grew up in detroit and I think I can solve the mystery as to how someone could do this and not be caught. Michigan is broke, detroit is even worse, so if you are counting on police responce time to help you with anything you're looking at about 2 1/2 hours if they have security company blowing up their phone, if not you're pretty much screwed. Mix that with druggies that love themselves some vigi games while getting blown back and you have the perfect oven to cook up this sick ass tragity. What's worse is this is just the D, can't wait to visit, damn I miss that place!

P.s. If anybody gets on this because its video game related and skips over the fact that detroit has fallen into a state close to hell I'll be the first to hop on the band wagon against it.

Never played it, I never owned a ps 1 pr 2.

If he was murdered all I can say is that it takes real strength and determination to carry the body of a grown man 1000 ft high.

I was just joking about something like this with my friends. But I got to ask: was it foggy?
Condolences to his loved ones. It must be terrible seeing a loved one like that.

Here, here. Though the episode with Satan makes it look like fucking Teletubbies, in my humble opinion.

That poor guy. He's dead and all that happened is that we start a Persona 4 discussion. Still, I shouldn't be talking, considering the fact that I posted the same thing at 9:44 last night.

Also, there's a guy on that article's comment page pretending to be Adachi.

EDIT: Not to mention that's it's a year and 4 days after Persona 3 ended.

"We here at The Escapist would never make fun of the death of another human being... [snip]... try to refrain from sticking your hands in any TVs for a while, okay? You never know what might happen."

Classy.

Reeeaaaal classy.

I like how everyone is saying you spoiled the game and what not when that is one of the first things you do in the game, hell you can look at the back and figure it out

By the looks of it, the guy was on drugs and was either trying to steal copper or hook it to a line to get free cable. Then he was electrocuted or fell somewhat and died where he was.

It's nothing new. I've seen similar stuff on much smaller electrical posts. Idiots get up there and are either caught in the act or can't get back down.

OK I'm being torn in two directions:

(1) OMFG I love Persona, am a fanboy for it, and love everything related to it!

(2) OMFG a poor human being was killed.

..
what to do...
