One of their big military projects is basically to create real Gundams, it's even called the Gundam Project, if I'm not mistaken. Right now, from what I've heard, they're focusing on Land Warrior style equipment for their troops along with what pretty much amounts to powered exo-suits.
Gundam project? They should get back on the carpet and if anything try to make these:

An 18m robot won't work out because you are a gigantic target and real life doesn't include the "I can block rockets with my forearm" armor that Gundams have. I don't think the Scopedog would have anything on plain old vehicles in open areas but it might be more maneuverable in tight urban environments.

Besides, these people have made mechs already. Albeit that the one looked like a harmless egg and the other one moved like a jerky shopping cart, but they have them. They also have robots that can balance on one leg and walk up and down stairs with almost no issue. Just wait until somebody decides to use the walking programming from the robot and sticks it into the big, tennis ball launching, shopping cart mech.

I would say to declare war and strike now before they can complete their army of mechs, but then who would defend us from the giant, city destroying, alien monsters?
The US isn't short on robots either, remember that mule thing?

I approve!

Also, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CD2V8GFqk_Y&feature=related

Walker + freakin' big chainsaw = awesome?

Though it could be pretty annoying to try to get it out of from the woods if it decides to break in the middle of the forest.

Ahh, good ol' Gundam Maxter. Boxing, football playing, and surfing.

God I love G Gundam.

Pfft, Canada and America have NOTHING on Australia Gundam!

That's right America! What now?!

Before the Gundam Maxtar there was, Freedom Gundam.

No No, Not Gundam Freedom (Which I hate along with almost everything ELSE in C.E. minus Mwu La Flaga, The Strike, and Astray)
Man, I don't get that. Freedom is a thing of beauty. It's like Aile Strike, but better.

Partially because beamspam mcasshat is behind the controls. Partly because Morosawa is on the level of Stephanie Meyer in my mind.

And Partially because it was the same damn attack over and over again.

And the Red Frame is just That Much Better.
Well sure, Freedom suffers from attachment to Kira and LOL MULTI TARGET BEAMSPAM, but I still think the design itself is absolutely gorgeous. Plus, the color scheme is ftw.

Does anyone know if they plan to make it pilotable? The thing would go from awesome to absolutely epic if they did.
It's made from steel, plastic, and fiberglass, so I guess it could be piloted. Of course, it would take Japan a few months to develop a jet system that would lift a 59-foot hunk of metal and plastic off the ground and into space.

Unless they have one already. Hmm...

Aww man. This is awesome, but why couldn't it be the Nu Gundam?
Because they're celebrating the classics, dude! And I think those new-fangled Gundams with ten-million swords and angel wings would be too complicated to build anyway.
As glad I am that they're celebrating the classics, I would seriously love it if they did one of Wing/Deathscythe/Epyon, because all three of those Gundam are incredible.

Now they just have to find some girly wuss to pilot it.
And a supporting cast to slap them repeatedly for being so whiny. A little Tomino Era Gundam humor for all of you youngsters out there.

A Bright-slap will fix anyone's attitude. He brought Amuro into line during the One Year War, and he did it again with Kamille in the Gryps Conflict.

Can a whole nation be megalomaniac?
Still, I hope to find pictures of the completed project :D

I seem to recall Shinji Ikari manning up in SRW @3 but I don't remember if that was Bright or not.

I think pretty much every major character in Gundam Zeta slaps Kamille, he's a lot more of a whiner than Amuro.
