Gladius

It was available on all 3 of last gen's consoles but had the misfortune of coming out at the end of a slew of greco-roman games, all of which sucked except for God of War. So no one paid attention to it at the time.

Little Big Adventure 2. Why does NOBODY ever mention that brilliant game? It's as if it didn't exist at all, and I only dreamed of it!
Amg!! Someone else who has played this game!!!

This guy is 100% right, go go find and buy it.

I've replayed this game like 5 times just for the music alone!

Also there is the first one but I was too young to remember it but I would still recommend it
GOG just had both the LBA games on sale this weekend. Anyways GOG has it for those curious about it.

Haunting Ground? I'm not sure how underrated it really is, but I rarely ever hear anything about it, and I thought it was a great game.

I am not sure if these games have been mentioned already but

Rayman Origins (current gen)- very underated and I am sad that it is flailing.

Shin Megami Tensi games that arent Persona (Nocturne, Digital Devil Saga, and Devil Summoner)- very intense rpg's with emphasis on collecting and using monsters.

The Red Star (PS2)- An actual good beat-em up based on a comic book. Very short and came in under the radar since it had publisher issues.

Radiant Historia (DS)- FINALLY another good time travelling RPG

Shadow Hearts Series (PS2) - One of the most underrated rpg series in my opinion. They tended to get overshadowed by Final Fantasy releases in the same year.

Blood Will Tell (PS2)- Hack n Slash action game that revolves on getting back your body parts. The only part I disliked was the annoying sidekick sections.

Psi-ops (PS2)- I had so much fun with this game, I am surprised it never got a sequel. While there are games that have shooting and psychic powers, there arent many games that have this same feel.....besides using corpses as telepathic surfboards was always fun

Freespace 2. The game that represents both the apex and the end of an era...

Drakengard- Ok, this is, in most respects not exactly a good game. The combat, while workable, is rather boring and the environments grow rather stale after a while. BUT, simply for the fact it took what every J-RPG did at the time and still do and completely did the absolute opposite to create, arguably, the most depressing and dark game ever created. I think it should be one of those games people should atleast play through once, especially if someones tired of some of the more typical J-RPG's. But, avoid the sequel like the plague and simply get Nier instead.

Medievils already been said, so i won't bother pointing that one out

Tony Hawk's Underground 1 & 2
Tony Hawk's American Wasteland
Wacky Races (PS2)

Even though it is a popular game with a cult following I have made a pledge to myself to spread the word of Fallout 3.

Why bother? I keep naming them but you never play them - Little King's Story (Wii) and Lock's Quest (DS). Someone please tell me they got around to playing them. Someone?... Anyone?....

Oh well, I guess I'll just wait for the next thread like this and keep posting into the abyss.

Demolition Racer (PS1)
MDK (PC-Dos)
Ecstatica II (PC-Dos)
Painkiller Hell Wars (Xbox port with the better part from the expansion pack)
Driver San Fransisco (X360/PC/PS3)(a recent game but not getting enough credits)

Almost forgot Koudelka.

Hell yes. I can't believe I forgot to add these gems to my list. Abe's Odyssey was one of my favorite PS1 games. I feel like the entire Legacy of Kain series should be on this list as well.

In reference to another post, I always thought Aria of Sorrow and Dawn of Sorrow were the most overrated Castlevania handhelds. What about Circle of the Moon?

Jesus, I remember that game. My friend got it when we were ten-ish and I thought it was fucking awesome, haven't played it since though.

STALKER Shadow of Chernobyl Scariest game. EVER. My all-time favorite game, there's just so many things about it that make it perfect and different I can't even list them (or be bothered to :p).

Cryostasis: Sleep of Reason Another terrifying game with great atmosphere.

Ukranians and Russians are very good with atmosphere it seems...

Shattered Horizon Awesome multi-player space shooter with -wait for it- awesome atmosphere. Sadly, the multi-player community is basically dead, but it could be re-ignited with a good push I think, maybe recommend it to a well known gamer group or something. It's also only $10 on Steam, but not made by Russians/Ukranians :(

Payday: The Heist Cool mechanics and just the feeling of being a bank robber is awesome. It also has good atmosphere....

Orcs Must Die! Silly and awesome Tower/trap defense game. Not very atmospheric though...

All of these are on PC and are available on Steam. I could add more but I'll stop now :p

I was thinking about how there are a lot of great games that get overshadowed by big titles like call of duty or battlefield. What are some great underrated games?

007 Nightfire

Edit: If anyone cares, I was thinking of starting a lets play channel where I play underrated games
Yes. Brilliant multiplayer with some terrific single player levels. And Rook is great.

Atelier Iris was mentioned, but I'd say most of the Atelier franchise is severely underrated.

Another JRPG I think too few people have played is Star Ocean: Till the End of Time, but it isn't so much underrated (It got stellar reviews) as it is completely unheard of.

Gotcha Force (GC) - Can't say I've ever met someone who had actually heard of this game, but it an awesome fighting / beat em up game which pretty much has the plot of Transformers (series not movie), but instead of giant robots, its small toys. I know that seems a little backward, but seriously, this game is the most fun I've had with my GameCube ever. Not that it set very high standards.

Goldeneye 007 (Wii) - I'll be honest, I played the original N64 Goldeneye when it came out, and I didn't like it. Maybe I just sucked too much at it, but this one is probably the best shooter on the Wii. Once again, not exactly high standards, but it does a lot of things right. Now if only they would have put Pierce Brosnan in there...

Mirror's Edge (360, PS3) - Far from a perfect game, but the central free-running mechanics work quite well and there are a number of levels that balance a kind of puzzle platforming with the more intense action sections. It got a lot of bad rap, but I'm not entirely sure why. Give it a shot at least.

Sonic Adventure (DreamCast) - May be 3D, but I still consider it the last truly good Sonic game (though I don't consider Adventure 2 all that terrible). A fairly solid story followed by fun and pulse pounding gameplay with a constant boss that keeps evolving and changing each time you face him. Not to mention the story switches between all the major characters. Yeah I know no one wants to play Amy, but seriously, E-102 Y is the best characterized robot of all time (yes, more so than the Portal ones), with one of the most tragic stories of any video game character.
